| I swear he understands every word that I say. Bengie that is. He is 18 months old now and even when I spell certain words he knows what I mean. I bet he has the vocabulary of the average 2-3 year old human kid. If I say/spell walk, he gets his leash, candy he runs for the refrigerator for pnut butter cups, bath or brush he runs and hides in my closet, he knows about fifteen different tricks. If I tell him to go "eat your dinner" he heads right for his bowl. If I say find the cat, he locates the cat (or his little bro, Garett, or my daughter Eileen, whatever I am asking for). So tonight I am holding him and Garett and I tell them that we are going to the vet tomorrow and they have to get their booster shots and he takes off like a shot and runs under the bed, and is still there. Now he has not been to the vet since February for his overdose and he still remembers! I tell him to go get his monkey and he will bring me the monkey. He sits, lays down, rolls over, plays dead, dances, patty cake (that one took a while and he needs to pick up his speed LOL), high five and jumps for a two pawed high sign, he also plays "bang-bang" you are dead, hide and seek, chase, and get your sweater. We just started working on jumping through hoops about a week ago and it is going pretty good. Garett is my little cuddler but not much on tricks. They both come immediately when called, that is the most important trick I have taught them. I have had dogs my whole life and I only had one other dog as smart as Bengie and that was my apricot poodle, Nelson who had his personal charge account with our ice cream man, and also sang a "high C" when I played the piano. What other tricks can I teach Bengie? Any suggestions? |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Wow your little boys are really smart...my girls understand a lot of words too, it is amazing how quickly they pick up on things...Magic and Sailor understand sit, come, stay, bye bye in the car, walk, outside, potty, eat, bedtime, night night....it is like talking to a 2 year old, we teach them short phases that they can understand!! I love it...
