| flea prevention question I have a 6 mo old yorkie. I give her heartworm preventive med once per month. Should I be taking steps to prevent fleas? She is mostly just in my yard with me. Are fleas common? Thanks, Bonnie and Cocoa |

| I think most of us have to use a flea preventative in the warm weather. All it takes is one flea to start an infestation. I notice you live in Connecticut. You definitely need to use something for ticks since lyme disease is such a problem in your area. Frontline is a great product for both fleas and ticks. |

| i know fleas are pretty common out here in california...not sure about connecticut, but if ticks are common there i suggest using a topical fea/tick control like advantage or frontline...its really easy just apply once a month and you are good to go

| I dont use it anymore. Mine are just in my yard and we treat the yard. When I take them on walks I dont take them on the grass. Chachi did end up getting a flea but I just washed him with dawn and it killed it. Jewels isnt even outside hardly ever

| We use Comfortis for the fleas and it is EXCELLENT! Here in Texas we have bad fleas but the Comfortis has pretty much eliminated them.

| It is a once a month flea pill. It kind of takes the place of Capstar. Capstar kills the fleas immediately and works great, but only lasts for 24 hours. Comfortis is the same thing but keeps working for 30 days. It is well worth it. You can get it from your vet.

YT 1000 Club Member | I use Advantyx..it kills fleas, tics, and repells mosquitoes. We live close to the river (in my backyard) and there's alot of trees and squirrels and other critters which is mostly how they get into your yard. Where I live fleas are a pretty big problem and around some of the lakes (in tall grasses) the tics are bad. Fleas are such a miserable thing for a dog to have so I keep her protected. |
