Default Trash digging Pup

I've been having real issues with Teddy lately. Whenever we're gone he'll climb up on our desk, he chewed up one of our wii controllers and then today whenw e came home from being gone for 30 mins(literally) we found him sitting ON my laptop, AND again the trashcan was on the floor!

He had a dish full of food AND water. I dunno how to make him stop because he only does this while we're gone and now it's to the point where he's going to be crated whenever we're gone because we don't want him to get worms from the trash or to ruin anything else. Have any of you had this problem with your teapots?

He went from being a very very good dog to suddenly acting out everytime we're gone. He use to leave the trash alone and then I fed him apiece of an apple once and since then he's been interested in the trash(actually getting up on his hind legs at it).

Somehow Teddy seems to have come to the conclusion that the trash is where the really "good" stuff is kept. He waits until you leave because he knows he is not supposed to get into the trash... my advice is to out think him...he thinks "good stuff" is in the trash, so I would plant a smell in the trash or on the can, that he does not like, so that he comes to the opposite conclusion.
Would love to hear of more solutions...........anyone?

My Suzi loves to get into all paper products. Regardless if we are at home or not. the best thing to do is keep the trash out of your dogs reach. He is smart enough to know to wait until the coast is clear to get into the trash. I leave my trash can outside. Outsmart the little guy, because they certainly will go for the "good stuff."

Have you tried bitter apple? You can get it at petsmart, you spray it on what you want them not to get into and MOST dogs hate the taste. Maybe you can get an X pen to keep your pup in while you are away.

yeah we decided to keep him in our kitchen while we're gone and as for the trashcan we don't even know how he knocks it down. The only size bigger then what we have is the kind ppl keep outside.

Default Items to use......

Well, let's see.....Bitter Apple someone said.. that is good to try. (some pups love it...) I would pour it-not spray it- all over the can where he touches it to turn it over.

Next try a perfume smelling trash can. Put good smelling laundry dertergent in the bottom under the bag, in the bag, keep sprinkling it in while you are home. Make it smell so darn good to us, but not to him... dryer sheets repel mice from pop up campers so put some of those in there too...

Peppers...hot peppers....... anything that causes the 'wowsir' reaction...nothing to hurt him, but teach him to stay out..

Natural items.....vinegar, lemon juice, anything bitter...

No smell at all.. rinse all bottles, lids etc. so that there is no smell whatsoever in the trash.....hoping he gets bored-ho hum..

take the fun out of it..make a new trash container under the sink, behind a closed door..

I think once he finds the can boring, he will leave it alone...

thanks I'll try those only I'll try the rest of the oxyclean we have.. that's a harsh smell that I know he won't like.
