| Had My First Scare Today !!!!! I have always been extremely cautious with my li'l one being out on my patio and have taken precautions with screening her in as I have coyotes/owls/hawks/crows lurking around here....Well today while working on the computer and I happened to look out my patio window to catch a glimpse of either an owl or hawk swooping down towards my patio. OMG ...it was a large bird too by the looks of the wing span......at first I didn't think it would be an owl as they are suppose to be nocutrnal, but I have had one go under my car during the day at a busy intersection..... Luckily my baby was indoors at the time. I am sooooooooo scared to let her out now...I thought that she would be safe with the netting and the patio cover, but now I really question it....does anyone know, would these predators swoop under a patio cover/netting so close to the house to get their prey?

| If I remember correctly, a member here had one swoop through a patio door opening whilel going after their two. You can do a search on here for "hawks" and you'll find lots and lots of info. Just be careful. Glad your little one is safe.

| I'll bet they would go under that. I always stay out with Murfee. Someone on here had a hawk (I think it was a hawk) try to attack them when they were holding their baby.

Senior Yorkie Talker | yeah i would definatly be careful. I had a baby bunny in my car one time and i was sitting in a parking lot waiting on a friend. I had gotten out to stand beside the car and i had the windows a little more than halfway down. Well a hawk swooped in and was trying to take the baby bunny. of coarse i freaked out and started screaming, and it flew out when i opened the door. He didnt get the baby bunny. Thank goodness. but i would be very careful. |

| I would think that if they are hungry enough and they see an opening, they will try to get to a food source. Good thing she was inside at the time!

| Do keep in mind that Hawks and Owls both have very sharp talons. It would not take much effort on a Bird of Preys' part to shred the netting. Also we have had Hawks come in quite close to our house, so they are able to swoop in to very tight spots. Glad your little one is safe. ~Marly

| That must have been a horrifying sight. I have seen a hawk or two around my house...and we did have an owl at one time too. Just the thought of it scares me. I think you would literally have to have a roof over the patio and closed in to feel 100% safe against predators. Even being outside in a fenced yard with Winston...I just never feel completely safe...from whatever lurks above. I am so happy to hear your baby was safe inside...
