dosage amounts for revolution

i bought 1 dose of revolution for Kash, and haven't applied it yet because i have a question...

when looking at the packaging of the different doses for different weights, how come the smallest dose works for puppies AND kittens who are less than 5lbs, but all the other doses are strictly for either dogs or cats...

does my question make sense?

Kash is 3.3 lbs so i bought the dose that works for both puppies and kittens. i just don't understand why they differentiate the doses once the weight goes above 5 lbs, but not when it's less... i attached a picture of the different packages although the text might be too small to read. i guess you can just tell from the pictures on the boxes (two have only dogs, one has only a cat, and one has both a cat and a dog)...

can anyone help me with my question so i can give Kash his meds?

I have used the Revolution for years. I have 2 in the under 5 lb and 2 in the 5-10 lb. dosages. The smallest amount is for all dogs and cats under 5 lbs. regardless of age...most dogs get bigger than that so they only put 3 vials in there. The 5-10 lb. box includes 6 vials. I think they have a different box for cats over 5 lbs. so that would explain the AND on the smaller box.

my 2 little ones will always be in the under 5 lb. size so i have to buy 2x as much. I asked the vet if i could get more in a box but they said that they only give 3 in a box because most puppies and kittens get over the 5 lb. quickly and then the vials wouldn't be enough.
We love the Revolution and the fact that it includes the flea/tick along with the heartworm treatment. None of my girls have every had a problem with it.

okay, so what i'm understanding is that the ingredients of the medication are the same for both dogs and cats, but the amount of medication is different for the different weights... regardless of species.

so, revolution offers 6 different dosages for dogs:

< 5 lbs (you buy the same box for cats)
5-10 lbs (you start buying different boxes for each specie)
10-20 lbs
20-40 lbs
40-85 lbs
85-130 lbs

and only two dosages for cats:

< 5 lbs (you buy the same box for dogs)
5-15lbs (you start buying different boxes for each specie)

apparently, according to revolution, cats don't grow to be more than 15 lbs?? i'm assuming this is pretty accurate but there are overweight cats... my bf's cat is probably about 13 lbs... she's almost at the cut-off! lol. so, i gues that means if she gains 3 more pounds i just need to use the dosage for dogs between 10-20 lbs?

How confusing.
I would not use the dog dose on a cat that is more than 15 pounds because dogs and cats probably require different amounts of the Selamectin. So while a dog may require 1 mg/kg, a cat might require 2 mg/kg (pulled these figures out of the sky...they aren't real). You could ask the company though. I don't know what the difference would be if they are five pounds and under though.
