DNA testing for males. I do not think I will be required to get this from AKC because I only plan on having 5 girls and 2 boys. But I want it. Who pays for it if AKC requires it? Probably me, but I don't know for sure and thot I'd ask.

I know that you will pay for it and I'm not REAL sure, but I think a male has to be DNA'd after every 7 breedings. I do know for sure that you will get a correct answer to your question.

| We only had to DNA our mastiff 1 time. You're supposed to do it after 3 litters in one year or 7 in his lifetime. I hope this helps a little.

Dna There is nothing to it..cost is $40. Contact AKC and they will send a swab kit..swab the inside of the mouth and back it goes to AKC...they will send a certificate..that's it. DNA does not change, so there is never a need to recheck it.

What is the point of the DNA testing? Why is it done after so many litters and not before the dog is bred?

Dna It is done to identify a frequently used stud. AKC does not consider a male a "frequently used" stud until 3 litters in one years or 7 in a lifetime.
