| My asthma and Maverick Okay so I just got Maverick a few weeks ago now and I've started having problems with my asthma a little bit. I've had a cat for a few years and the cat hasn't bothered my asthma at all but all of a sudden it is acting up a little bit. I mean it's not horrible but it is bothersome. I think part of the problem is I've let him sleep with me. He hates his crate and will yelp for 45+ minutes. So I don't know what to do. I don't really want to try to find him another home b/c the minute I saw him I fell in love with him and he is such a good puppy but I don't know what to do. Does anyone else out there have asthma and a dog? Do/Did you have problems at all? When I was doing research about getting a yorkie they said that they usually don't bother people with asthma because of the type of hair they have. He has also been itching a lot and the Vet said he has dry skin so maybe that's why it's bothering me. So anyways I'm just looking for some info on this. Thanks. |

| Yeah I guess it could be something else it's just the only thing that has been different is me getting Maverick. I'm going to the Dr. to talk to her about it and see what she says. I have my inhaler and other medications I can take I'm just nursing still so I have to see what I can and can't take. So we'll see. Hopefully it's something else and it'll pass. |

| Asthma I have it and when I get around a new puppy I have a reaction. Kennels tend to have a lot more something in the air (dander?) even when it is just from a place w/ one mom and 2 puppies. Anyway, after that wears off, if it still keeps up it is often the shampoo, conditioner or puppy cologne. I have wasted SOOOO much money finding ones that I am not allergic to! I can always tell the first night after a new product if I am allergic! Some bother my eyes, some my skin, but a lot my breathing! It should not be the dog. they are one of the two best breeds for asthma patients! |

Thank you so much!! I feel so much better after hearing this. REALLY! See and that's what I read about them being good for asthma patients. I guess I will just try different shampoos. I've tried two so far. | |

| My daughter has Asthma and we have Maya. She is just fine ... but they don't sleep in bed together ... Maya is in her Crate in Tiffany's room. So fare ... no problems. I read in an Artikel (did tons of research) that Yorkies are the best ones if you have Asthma or Allergies.

| My hubby has sever asthma and allergies and Gypsy sleeps between us at night. He cuddles her a lot and plays with her. He has had no worse problems than usual. He does have a little more problem when she first comes home from the groomers. The shampoo and conditioner that they use seems to bother him a little.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I would suggest checking and getting a natural shampoo for your baby. Most likely it's that. If your not asthma is not really bothered by the cat then I would think that the dog can't be causing the problems. My sister has Asthma very bad and she cuddles the hell out of mine with no problems.

| Thanks again guys. I actually shampooed him with my son's baby shampoo a few days ago and it seemed to help a little bit. Not that I'm goign to use that on him all the time I just figured it would be gentle enough on him since it's good for babies. We are going today to look for an all natural shampoo. |

| I am allergic to dogs, and they do make my asthma worse. Because I had always grown up with dogs, I never really noticed it until I went to college, and I would come home to visit. For the first couple of days, it would be really bad, especially if I let him lick me. If I slept with him, I almost always woke up wheezing really bad and would have to use my inhaler or machine. After the first couple of days, it would calm down, though. Frequent baths and using all natural shampoos will definitely help, but if you're also allergic to the saliva, you'll probably still have some problems. As long as I'm able to keep it under control, it's worth it to me, though. Hee, it's like my allergist said when I was young, "I see we have a dog and we have an allergy, and I suspect we're going to keep them both." I'm also very allergic to cats (more allergic to them than I am to dogs), but it doesn't ever calm down, no matter how long I'm around them. Funny thing is, I was never allergic to cats until we got one, when I was around 12. Then, I developed. |

| There is a good article about it here http://allergies.about.com/od/specif...dogallergy.htm no animal is hypoallergenic when someone is allergic to the saliva of the animal. My daughter has asthma and is allergic to dog saliva. With her allergy she cannot be close to even the yorkies. I am allergic to dogs with undercoat like cockers, shepherds....but I can be near maltese & yorkies. Your allergist should test you to see exactly what your allergen is and then you can be treated accordingly. I hope you find some relief.
