Lip smacking? This is a strange question, but both my Yorkies do this thing when they are about to doze off, and their head is down where most of the weight is resting on their chin. They smack their lips, like "settling in" to sleep. They do it for a few seconds, then repeat every minute or so. (sometimes it's annoying!) but mostly I wonder if it's normal? I know Yorkies have little mouths and lots of dental issues. They are both 1.5 years old and have had their baby teeth already pulled. I have been using the OraVet tooth "wax" instead of brushing since their teeth were cleaned. I think I'm just being paranoid, but wanted to know if anyone else's dogs do this? Teresa

Lexi does this too...constantly. I have no clue why. It is very annoying to be sleeping, have her move right up beside me and go to smacking in my ear! She has actually woken me up in the night doing it several times.

With Mogli, it's like licking his lips. I never thought about it as abnormal ... he also will jiggle his head a little ... I figure it's just their way of getting comfortable ... some do it more than others.

Yeah - Mine do this too! So annoying when I am just falling asleep WOW - Now it's really going to haunt me every time I hear them do it. My TJ also has to do his 'snorting and burping and farting' before bed time. I don't know where on earth he came up with this 'thing' he does, but it keeps getting worse. In bed as we are trying to go to sleep TJ sticks his nose under the blankets/pillows - whatever - and he sucks in air - snorting and sucking in air - over and over and over - this can continue for 10 mins or so. When he stops after 30 seconds he lets out a lion burp - starts walking around the bed trying to settle in all the while his hiney is whistling He cracks us up! No idea why he does this....
