Yorkshire Terrier Papers(Deadline?) We have had our Yorkies for 4 years now. They are full bred Yorkshire Terriers. We were given the paperwork to fill out and send in, but have not done it. It wasn't important to us. Well, now we have decided to breed our dogs and are planning on sending the paperwork in. Is there a deadline as to when you have to send that stuff in?

You have a year to send them in with no penalty. There's some kind of fee if you send it in after that...but as long as you have the original documents you can still register the dogs for their lifetime.

Here is the AKC info about it: I heard you can submit an application with a penalty fee after the one year deadline. Is this true? You have one year to register your dog from the date we issued the dog registration application. Chapter 3, Section 4 of the Rules Applying to Registration and Discipline states the following: "An application to individually register a member of a registered litter shall be valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of issue of the application. An application to individually register a member of a registered litter filed with The American Kennel Club more than twelve (12) months from the date of issue of the application may be considered for registration provided the applicant supplies such required information and remits such penalty fee as shall be determined by the Board of Directors. No application to individually register a member of a registered litter will be accepted after twenty-four (24) months from the date of issue of the application, except when the delay in filing the application for individual registration results from an American Kennel Club investigation or inquiry, an action of law or other hardship circumstances satisfactory to The American Kennel Club and the applicant remits such penalty fee as shall be determined by the Board of Directors. If the dog's registration application has gone over the one-year expiration date, you need to send us the following: Properly completed dog registration application. $55 Processing fee ($35 is a penalty fee, $20 is the registration cost) Note: If you choose the pedigree combo option, you need to send us $72 ($35 is a penalty fee, $37 is the registration/pedigree cost). Also, if you have any supplemental transfer statements (gray forms), please remember to add $5 for each gray form. If the dog's registration application has gone over 2 years from the date we issued the form; you need to send us the following: Properly completed dog registration application. A letter explaining the lateness. $85 Processing fee ($65 is a penalty fee, $20 is the registration cost) Note: If you choose the pedigree combo option, you need to send us $102 ($65 is a penalty fee, $37 is the registration/pedigree cost). Also, if you have any supplemental transfer statements (gray forms), please remember to add $5 for each gray form. Mail the above information to: American Kennel Club 5580 Centerview Drive Raleigh, NC 27606-3390 Note: If there are more than two new owners or more than two litter owners, you will need an additional form called an Additional Signature Form. This is also needed if the dog has been transferred and there are more than two former or new owners on the supplemental transfer statement. If you need the form mailed to you, please send a request with your complete name and mailing address and the type and quantity of the form needed to info@akc.org. The information will be reviewed and your dog's registration will either be accepted or denied. If the penalty fee is submitted, most registrations are accepted, but there is no guarantee. If it is denied the late fee will be refunded but the registration fee will not. If accepted, you will be sent an official AKC certificate.
