| Mineral Oil in Eyes Before Bath? My vet gave me a bottle of mineral oil and said to put a drop in Logan's eyes before his bath. That would keep the soap from getting into his eyes. But is that healthy for his eyes? Has anyone else ever heard of this? |

| Interesting....I would also like to hear replies on this..... Don't mistakenly use baby oil, even though it says mineral oil it has perfumes in it, just a FYI....

| I've heard of that before here on YT, but I can't remember when or from whom...so I'm really no help.

| I have a silly suggestion: we should try putting a drop of mineral oil in our own eyes and see if it's safe! Because Lord knows that we would only treat our furbabies with the same care we would want for ourselves! Hehehe. Really, if it harms us, it'll harm them. |

| There are a few threads on this in the grooming section if I recall correctly. I think it does help them, and I would administer it as the vet reccomended to you for your dog.

| I'm really with ya on that one dani23d, I would only put it in his eyes if I was able to put it in my eyes; but of course we all feel that way. So I'm going to call my vet on that one. |

| The mineral oil keeps the soap from burning their eyes and it doesn't hurt them. We used to do that with our first Yorkie...just one tiny drop from an eye dropper is enough to protect their eye. Boog never had any ill effects from it and it seemed like the water kind of rinsed his eyes because he never had anything left in them after his bath. |

| I just finished reading a "sticky" at the top of the "grooming" section that recommends putting a drop of mineral oil in their eyes. Check it out. The second link will take you directly to the grooming pages. See page 160. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80805 http://media.wiley.com/product_data/...0764568809.pdf

| I did try it, but how would I know if it harms him since I can't feel what he does I would think it would make their eyes "filmy" and their vision blurry afterwards. But Logan doesn't act like he has any problem seeing afterwards. Plus, as someone else stated, the rinse water probably removes most if not all of the oil. |
