Administrator | Buying from Pet Stores or Puppymills - PLEASE READ YorkieTalk is passionate about stopping puppymills. We urge all members that are looking for Yorkies to find Yorkies via a Yorkie breeder who is ethical and one who cares for the Yorkie breed. We urge all members to visit the breeder in person and to see the Yorkie baby's parents in person as well. No reputable breeder would sell their Yorkies in a pet store. If you did buy from a pet store or puppymill, we have nothing against you. We welcome you and your Yorkie, no matter if your Yorkie has a showdog pedigree, it is a rescue, it is a Yorkie mix, or if it came from a pet store or puppy mill. We advise you do some research into why puppymills and pet stores are bad, and why buying from a puppymill or a pet store is a bad idea. Your Yorkie will not be shunned by the YorkieTalk community no matter where it came from. We hope you can educate yourself and if you do get another Yorkie in the future, that you do find it from a reputable breeder. Besides government intervention, the only way to stop puppymills is to NOT buy from them and not buy from the pet stores that get Yorkies from puppymills. If the puppymills don't make money, they will not be breeding Yorkies. Each time a Yorkie is bought at a puppymill, the puppymill will then breed more Yorkies to take its place. If you still want to buy from a pet store or a puppymill after knowing about them, that is certainly your right, however, do know that people are breeding Yorkies just for the sake of money, and the Yorkies may be kept in very poor conditions or in cages their whole lives until they are sold and that your purchase from a pet store or a puppymill may be contributing to the vicious cycle of breeding just for profit.
