Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting. I have a problem. We purchased an adorable Yorkie puppy several months ago from a breeder in Roseville (Sacramento). "Gypsy" was advertised as a "teacup" Yorkie but is now not quite 4 months old & weighs in at 4.4 pounds. She was also advertised to have champion lines, but the only champion is 3 generations back & only on the father's side. The breeder is noncommittal & says we got what we paid for ($1100.00), there is no guarantee on size & the one champion line is still considered to be champion lines. Anyone have any feedback on this? Thanks,

no such thing as a TEA CUP YORKIE....

It is a selling moniker....
The smaller the dog he bigger the vet bill...
Buying a small Yorkie can bring you a huge vet bill...ask the seller where the criteria for a Tea Cup Yorkie is written....?

Good luck, they are great dogs...your better off if the dog is bigger than smaller health wise...sounds like the seller is suspect....I would get a health check first and foremost on the pup and have them check for liver shunt...fwiw...

4.4 pounds at 4 months is average....

Are you seriously looking at this little girl. If you are having serious doubts, go with your gut...In My Opinion......nothing sounds Kosher, keep looking - elsewhere.

As the others have said, the teacup thing isn't true. There are smaller yorkies, some tiny tiny, but they aren't teacup. I personally think 4lbs at 4 months is a little big. That might just be me though. My little guy is 4 months and only weighs 1.5lbs. Also, to me, that price is a little much. I only paid $850 for Riley and that included the airline fee. As for the vet bills.. Ughhh they suck. Lol. My baby got kennel cough when I first got him and ONE vet bill was $160. I think thats on the low end too.

The price qouted is average for California.....

4 pounds at 4 months is average....but, all is dependent on the line.

Your "lil" guy is a wee one.

There aren't any teacup yorkies, just smaller ones. At 4 pounds at 4 months I don't think he will be super tiny, but if your happy with him, and love him don't worry about it. There's people here with all different size yorkies.

If your baby is 4+ lbs at 4 months, she's not going to be an ultra tiny one. Baby was 3lbs at 12 weeks, and she's 11lbs at 2 years. BUT...it all depends on the Yorkie. Sorry you got duped with the "teacup" advertisement. Just love your baby no matter what size she turns out to be.

A member’s advertising shall not use terms as “teacup”, “tiny specialists”, doll faced, or similar terminology.

To give you an idea how big she'll be, double her weight at 13 weeks.

Unfortunately, it seems like your breeder wasn't too ethical, but there really isn't anything you can do about it now. No one can predict adult size and as far as "champion lines" go, a prospective buyer should always ask to see the parent's pedigrees.

A little off topic.....everytime I see your signature, I have to snicker...It's what my grandchildren call me instead of the traditional titles used for grandmothers....don't know how it came about....

So sorry that you're going through this. Teacup is a marketing term...PERIOD.

No one can truly guarantee a size but most that have been breeding a while can "guesstimate" by looking at the parents and grandparents...but you do get throw-backs every now and then.

If your dog weighs 4.4 lbs at 4 months, I'd say she'll be 6-7 lbs full grown.

As far as champions...*chuckling to myself*, I would have checked the pedigree prior to purchase. Many unethical breeders claim to have champion backgrounds all the time. They fail to tell you that they are several generations back and like your case, only on one side.

Did you sign a contract?

At 4 pounds at 4 months I don't think he will be super tiny, but if your happy with him, and love him don't worry about it.
