We are watching for symptoms which she seems to have a few, very tired, has vomited once and her teets look longer but not swollen or anything. he stomache seems to be the same but sometimes we "think" we see a difference ... Does anyone have any info for us , we're getting anxious ... We have tried feeling her stomache but we cant seem to feel anything ????? any info would would be "greatly appreciated" |

Hi, if she's pg you'll notice her vulva didn't go back down to pre-heat size. They take a long time to show, 5 weeks at least(usually). Be careful trying to palpate, if she is pg you could cause a miscarriage if you don't know what you're doing. Sounds like she is, particularly is she tied 3 times with a proven stud.

Here is another one: http://hometown.aol.com/mayassites/whelping/ These sites will help you with understanding pregnancy, what to expect, whelping, and puppy development. There is such a thing as false pregnancy in dogs. They can also be re-absorbed. Wait another 2 weeks. If you don't see ANYTHING then, there may be something else going on. When they are in heat, their vulva swells a lot, then the swelling goes down. When they get pregnant the vulva doesn't go back to its original size before coming into heat. I do hope this has been helpful. I'd highly suggest reading over and over and learning as much as you can before the pups come. There is aslo a wonderful Knox gelatin receipe on here for post whelping. You can find that in the "search" option above in the darker blue bar.

Next time - you might not want to breed her so many times. You can have a pup conceive on the first tie and another on a later tie several days later, but will actually be born with the first one. So it may be harder for the last one to be strong enough. People have actually had some pups not make it due to this. I always go to my vet and get an ovulation test done and then breed on the day he says, skip a day and breed again. I have never had any problems - always have worked for me. Just wanted you to know this - for next time. We are here to help. We all have to learn someplace. Best of luck! T.

thanks for the info... I had left her with the breeder for about a week and a half and and trixie had no interest in the male the whole time except for the last two days and that is when they tied several times.. The breeder was very careful and only put them together when she was watching .. I was actually concerned because Trixie was showing no interest, but the woman reassured me that when she was interested, it would happen ... And it took a week and a half... Her Vulva was still large but I believe it has gone down some recently.. I just wanted to hear a few personal stories... we have researched alot, but I have noticed some people have had more visual signs by now ....

I guess I was lucky, since I worked for a vet before I ever had my first litter. So I saw all the problem cases and what to do when. But I would highly recommend Ann Seranne's biik, "The Joy of Breeding Your Own Show Dog." It is not just for people that want to breed show dogs. It is for anyone wanting to breed right and then leads you step by step through the birthing. It also has what to do if... (for problems). When to call your vet, etc... It is a gret book!! Well, let us know how it goes. It does sound like she is pg. T.

Ok E-mailed the Breeder that has the male I bread Trixie with, and told her what was and wasnt going on... She seems to think she is pregnant. She told me to have an x ray done at 45 days because the skelaton of the puppies would be visable and to see if Trixie can pass them.. Just tought I would let you know
