Default I Have a couple of questions .

How often is a dog suppose to come into heat? Is it every month like people or just every so often? And when they are in heat when should they be bred, like how many days into the heat cycle should you wait to breed one? and how long do they carry the litter before labor. Just curious as I've never been around dogs being bred. Are puppies more relaxed after they have babies or I guess I mean mature or are they just as hyper most of the time?

I believe it is usually twice a year, but some more and some less. I'm not sure how many days into the cycle to breed.

If you are planning on breeding then i suggest getting a couple of books on breeding. As for whether or not they are more mature, I believe that would depend on the individual dog.

Dogs can come into heat three times a year, but most come into season only once or twice. In my experience yorkies come into season every 6-8 months. This is an average not an exact. Dogs are as different as people. As far as being more relaxed, I don't think having babies do that, I think its either a maturity thing or the personality of your dog. Having babies might make them more nervous.

Kizzy - an informative website that may answer many of your basic breeding questions...debbiejensen.com

Bitches heat typically every 6-8 months, some yearly, and some even longer.

LOL your website you sent was enough to tell me I dont want to breed any puppies. rofl. Don't think I would last thru one litter. I will just buy a girlie later. I would have to worry about losing me probably more than losing Kizzy or the puppies. ha thanks a lot for the link. Really has some gorry looking things there. Guess I am just gutless. I never knew when my two babies were born. I was out like a light the whole time and my first one (my son) I was in labor 13 hours which isnt nearly as long as some but then I was in recovery 7 hours just sleeping it off. Never saw him till late in the evening and he was born at 2:42 am. So having babies are not for me much less watching something else have one. ha, good thing to send a person who is thinking of breeding a pup. Should pretty much tell them if they want to go thru with this or not before the puppy gets bred.

LOL wasnt meant to scare you, there is a lot of learning to do when or if one decides to breed...as you can see its not as simple as just putting two dogs together. I'll leave the human baby making to you and Ill keep the puppy making

...including the part about the human babies.

Kizzy's mom~I commend you for being responsible and wanting to learn before you breed! That is a GREAT start and you are in the right place to get alot of good pointers. Just keep your chin up! True, alot goes in to learning, but the rewards are great in the end.
