As you all know I have 4 lab pups ...3 are HUGE and than theres "little" man. They are 3 weeks today and little man can barelyt hold his head up yet...hes trying to today my husband said but not active or anything like that. Hes eats off his momma but do you think hes needs something more like a supplement of pet formula or do you have any suggestions?? I am really worried about him.

I would start to supplement him and make sure he's staying warm. Poor little guy!

Poor lil pumpkin.
Only advice I can give is you might try putting the others in a basket and let little man eat his fill, at least 3 to 4 times a day until he is stronger. If he repsonses to this, then I would start feeding him canned food or puppy gruel by hand very soon..........I do this for my pups at 3 1/2 weeks on average, before that they show no interest.
I wish your lil guy strength and good health.
Good luck, maybe someone else will have more advice.
Might not even hurt to try the greul now, he might respond to it.

If you look in this breeder section there is a thread about gruels for puppies. People use them to start puppies off ...getting used to eating. I used to do this but found they ate better if I used a quality dog food smashed on my fingers to start them out. I hand fed at first and its just worked really well for me. But a gruel may work better for you.

Well... iwent and got some milk for him. He wont drink out of the bottle but if I put in my hand he laps it up. I have never seen a runt like this... It seems he has so little of handle on his body. He can hold up his head but it bobbles everywhere and he doesnt really move around much but when I was holding him he licked my hand and was trying to snuggle with me. He's back out with his momma and at 3:30 am going to feed him again. wish me luck!!

Wow he is so much smaller then the rest. I would make sure he eats by him self from mommy every few hours. I would also have him checked out at the vets just to make sure nothing else is wrong. Good luck I hope he starts doing better soon.

Does he have goopy eyes or runny nose? I dont' know how dogs act, but if a kitten gets distemper they can't control their body moments and their head hangs to one side. I really hope it's nothing like that, but a call to the vet probably wouldn't hurt.

Aww, poor thing. He really is a lot smaller than his siblings in that picture. I can't give you any more advice that what you've already gotten because I've never had newborn pups BUT when we got our two kittens, one was SO, SO skinny that I was worried. What we did was feed the two of them their dry food at the same time and in between feedings, we would give the skinny one a special meal of a wet food that seemed more fattening. After just a couple weeks of that, she fattened up really well! Good luck with him. I hope he doesn't have other health issues and just needs a little more fattening and attention!

I know when kitten is smaller and weaker I always keep on a covered heating pad. also when the dogs are not feeling well I use a heated pad. maybe you should keep him inside and do hand feeding and a heating pad
