| Puppy has diarrea One of Shorties puppies has diarrea. It just started a few minutes ago. Shortie has looser bowels than normal but not really like diarrea. What causes this? The wiered part is that me and the kids have had a virus all weekend. Could they have caught this? Is there anything I need to give Shortie or the puppy for this? I am just worried about them getting dehydrated. Thanks, Shelly ps also the pups are 11 days old today. I read that their eyes will open between 10 and 12 days old. None of my pups eyes are open yet. When should this become a concern? |

| Hi Shelly ask your vet for some amoxicilin to be on the safe side if you think the pups arent feeling well. If you see a wetter than normal nose and eyes I will usually give them a 5 day dose. The loose stool will clear up with this too if there is some bacteria. They shouldnt get dehydrated because they are nursing. I would give mom as a percautionary the amoxicillin too. eyes can be anywhere from 12 -15 days, you still have time, if it takes longer take a warm damp cotton ball and wipe their eyes around 14-15 days sometimes that will help too. hope this helps

| Update Today the pup nor mom has diarrea. I think I am being an overly paranoid "grammy". I am just so new at this that every little thing worries me to death. The pups are doing so good and I have already gotten so attached to them by watching them be born and then watching them grow. I guess I am just so afraid of something going wrong. Is there a way to get the diarrea out of their hair? One rolled into it before I got it all cleaned up. I know that I can not bathe them but it looks so gross. I was wondering if maybe I could use a diaper wipe or something? Thanks again for all the help. I would be lost if it wasn't for you guys. Shelly |
