when to xray? I have a friend who's yorkie is pregnant. Her 63rd day is Dec. 3. We were talking about getting an xray and she wants to have it done on Tuesday, which is the 54th day...isn't that too soon? Or not? I always thought it needed to be around the 58th day... thanks! deb

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I always x ray my girls the aprox the week before due date after first breeding or progesterone date. I have heard from other experience breeders that the best days are about the 55 to 58 days, I waited with my chanel she is due today and I had x rays done wenesday..the more calcified the babies the better the x rays.. best of luck with your girl.. hugs, Carmen in nj |

I also do mine around 57-58 days. Not only is the calcification better, but you have a good idea of the size of the pups. That can alert you to possible problems with the whelping, if there is an over sized pups.

Thanks everyone...we saw four for sure, possibly 5 ( I think there are 5). She's a big girl...8 lbs normally and pretty sturdy, so I hope all goes well. This is her first litter and her owner's first litter too. But my friend has been reading and researching for awhile, so I think she's prepared. I'll keep you posted. Due date is Dec. 2 (from the first tie) thanks again!

Thanks Carmen! I've been gaining a ton of experience and knowledge helping other people with their litters. Now if my girlies would just come into their FIRST heat! haha...I have two girls (three counting my spayed Phoebe)....one is almost 11 months old and hasn't had her first heat yet. The other is only 7 months old... How big was your girl pre-pregnancy? It sounds like everything went smoothly for you with your girl...delivering 5 babies...Can't wait to see pictures.
