| My goodness! Is this normal??? My dogs are tying twice a day! Every morning for 20 minutes and every night for same! It is getting ridiculous in my opinion. This has been going on since Monday - the first 'official' 22 minute tie was on Sunday evening. Please tell me this is normal but not very common - this is not her first time - last stud did it 5 times - not a dozen or so!!! Thanks! |

| It is not advisable to let your dogs to breed freely. They need close supervision. I only allow mine to breed every other day. I always keep the male and female separated until breeding time and then I am right there holding the female. |

| Yes its normal ,a male will mate as many times as you let him .I would limit his access to her and give her some rest.

This is one of the questions AKC will ask you should they ever inspect you, which could be at anytime. AKC frowns upon free breeding.

| Also, males sometimes don't have enough sense to rest and since they don't normally eat well when around a female in heat, the male could easily over exert himself and die. |

| We don't let them EVER be unsupervised, and I do separate them during the day - I am at home most of the time ( only work one morning a week ) and I do sit with them while they are in locked position, PLUS Tink sleeps with us every night and the male in his cage. So I guess I should have clarified that much - that it isn't a 'free for all' but it seems to me she is always shoving her rear in his face and at times he just lays there too tired. As I said the last time we used a different male and it was nothing like this! I will keep them separate for the remainder of her heat. I am sure she is good and pregnant. |

| Remember a girl can ruin a good stud, by causing him injury. Your hands should be on them at all times. I usually hold the female and husband the male, once the tie is broken he goes and rinses the boy, applies panalog and puts him up. I turn the girl upside down, in my arms, with her rear elevated for about 10 minutes then put her up to rest. They aren't allowed near each other, until the next breeding, skipping a day. Repeated close breeding does not allow the male sperm to build up. Girls are hussies at this time, they can even entice a nuetered male.

You need to be in control and here they breed every other day... I read many things about it... vet recommendations...i do not recall anyone defending free mating ....

My fiance and I always hold them as well. We sit patiently with them to ensure the male is not injured. Glad to know we aren't the only one who holds the rear end elevated. Our mentor taught us that LOL. We also heard that allowing back to back breeding can actually kill off the sperm. | |

| I couldn't help but laugh!! Too funny! I'm so nervous about Ella's first time. Yipes, but its what I agreed to when I got her I almost just want to get her fixed and say that the vet messed up when I went to drop her off for some routine tests. But I know that is wrong of me. I signed a contract and everything. |
