| Temp is 98.5! Hello everyone. I made it to my test today (the one that Rosie was supposed to allow me to make it to) and when I came home she had threw up on my bed while dad was watching over her. Then we checked her temp and we have been using the kind that only takes 8 seconds. When I first started I also used a mercury one so then I knew what degree difference there was between the elec. and merc. and have been subtracting the difference in order to keep using the quicker one. Any way, I got a drop to: 98.5 (actually said 97.8 + 0.7 deg.) I am a little skeptical so far if this is the onset of labor though. She isn't showing any other signs yet. Is it normal to not see any other signs for a few more hours? I don't want to get too excited yet because what if she's tricking me? We are on day 61, 59, or 56 depending on which tie did the trick. Vet seemed to think the calcification of the bones in her x-ray indicates she is on the sooner end of this range, but who really knows. If anyone reads this and has advise or wants to say a prayer for us to have a safe whelp, that would be appreciated. -Melissa & Rosie. Thank God I don't have to leave my house again for class until next Monday.

| Thanks, you know with how many million times I went over all the info i could find about whelping, when something like this actually happens it seems like you forget eveything you tried to learn, probably because it's so exciting.

| I have a book on all the stuff I have learned and I just go over and over. I print off everything, its a wonder I have money for anything else but inc!!! Most of it is from here and my vet of course. It is amazing how fast we forget what comes next, but I think you and Rosie will do great!

| What was her baseline temp before it dropped to where it is now? |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Isn't it that labor will USUALLY begin within 24 hours after the temp drop? It's been over a year since my one and only whelp so far and it was anything but textbook, so I'm just kind of remembering what I have read or seen here on YT. Good luck to you........we'll be staying tuned to this thread.

| Her baseline about a week ago was between 100.4 and 99.9, those were the first 2 I recorded anyway. Sunday it got down to about 99.2 in the evening. I gave her a few days off because she'll fight me so bad if I don't have help holding her still, then after I found out she threw up today I checked it and it was at 98.5. I am going to do it again right now. She is still eating the chicken I gave her and a little wet dog food about an 1/2 hour ago, but just a little bit of it ( I think it was just because the other dogs were watching and she didn't want them to have it) Let me go take it again. O.k. it is back up to 99.7. I think she is messing with me today. When the temp drops, does it stay down or go back up before labor?

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | I've read the average whelping temp is between 98-99, and that it spikes high, then drops with labor within 24 hours. Her temp being up a bit now could be caused from being up and about moving around, playing or what ever.....so the drop to 98.5 could be legit in telling us whelping is near. But these girls sure do have a way of playing with our minds, don't they Let's just suffice it to say that she will likely have them before you have to leave for class on Monday......or at least we sure hope so!

| I believe she played with you today, lol The temp usually takes a real nose dive and stays there until whelping starts, usually within 24 hours. Once it starts the temp then can go back up. But with a temp going down and up and down, usually not the time. When that temp takes the nose dive, trust me, you'll be posting, OMG her temp is 96.8 lol Now this is USUALLY the norm in whelping bitches. But... every dog has their day! |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I sent you a pm but mine will drop and if it STAYS dropped we normally have babies in 12-24 hours. Once I get a drop I check it every hour to make sure it stays down. Keep me posted! Oh and mine normally throw up but its when the contractions are starting. |

| Abby's temp stayed in the 99-100 range going up and down within that range then one morning I got up and it was 98.4 it stayed down all day and she didn't start the panting untill 11 pm. that night and didn't deliver the first baby until 5 am the next morning. So it could be awhile, but hopefully sooner than later. Today is Abby's 64 day from the first tie and day 61 from the second and 60 from third tie and her temp was 99.9 as of about 1/2 hour ago. Im ready to see babies. How long is too long before they should be having them? I am just assuming that she didn't conceive on the first tie. Also, the first tie was pretty early in her cycle. The second tie was on day 10 after bleeding started so am pretty sure this is the day she most probably conceived, and was the day she conceived on her last litter. Congrats. and hope you have babies soon. |
