2nd Thoughts About Breeding *I* am having 2nd thoughts about breeding Dudley and Miley but hubby wants to. This would be the FIRST time for us doing this and *I* would be the one dealing with it all since I am a stay at home mom. I have been doing A LOT of reading from some sites that someone posted and I don't want to do it. My question is, ok, we can get Miley fixed for FREE until 6/20/2008 but if we get HER fixed and wait on Dudley (due to cost), what would happen? Would Dudley still try to mount her or would he leave her alone, knowing she isn't in heat? He "humps" my MIL's leg all the time, never tries it with me (guess he knows better LOL), but would he do that to Miley?

Silly question.........does it help with potty training if they are fixed? These 2 are our first Yorkies, we had 2 Daschunds years ago (male & female) but they were potty trained AND fixed when we got them LOL.

Dudley is potty trained but Miley isn't. I think if we get her fixed, we might as well get him fixed too, but like I said, he will be later due to cost. She is free so we can do her now. | |

Dudley will still try to hump Miley after she is fixed. After he is fixed he will still continue to hump Miley, at least for a while. I think it takes a little while for their hormones to settle down. I have heard of several neutered males hooking up with females in heat. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

Well after talking to hubby about it more, we are going to have Miley fixed SOON. Then we will have Dudley fixed a little later on. I guess if he humps her, at least she won't get pregnant since she will be fixed. Now IF she is starting to go in heat now, will they fix her now? She isn't swelled in her "area" and we haven't seen any discharge but Dudley must sense something, so I hope they can go ahead and fix her this week.

Since she is just 5 months old I doubt seriously she is coming in heat. Vets prefer to spay them when they are not in heat. How much does Miley weigh?

Good for you for deciding to have Miley spayed. Did you know that getting her spayed before she has her first heat will basically eliminate her chance of getting mammary cancer? There are other health benefits, too. Canine Spay FAQ - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company!

Thanks. I called the Vet this morning and she goes FRIDAY. Drop off is between 7:30am & 8am but I told them it will be closer to 8am since I have to put my kids on the bus at 7:30am and we are 15 minutes away, so she said that is fine and will make a note for them. Then we will pick her up Saturday morning. I will let you all know how she does.

You are making the BEST possible choice for your baby girl and when you can do that for your boy too! You won't regret it! Breeding is a huge responsibility and while it's natural and we are certainly capable, it doesn't mean we all should. Enjoy your babies, as they are darlings and they just want to love you as much as you love them. Best of Luck and WELCOME to YT
