Star Crazy Ovulation Test COME SEE!!!

Ok this has to be one of the strangest things i have ever heard but if true could help a lot of you breeders in determining ovulation for breeding...

I was having a weird convo with my friends mother she knows a breeder and she was talking about her breeding she told me they read in a breeding book that you could do an ovulation test called a glucose fertility test what it said was..

****At the time of ovulation, Glucose is secreted into the vagina and can be detected by inserting a strip of Glucose Enzymatic test tape into the vagina, if the edges or whole thing turns green that the female will be ready to breed in 24 hours.****

I looked at the book she had and it does say that the book is " The Joy of breeding your own show dog" by Anne Seranne I was just curious if any of you breeders have ever heard of this i don't want to look like an idiot and argue it if it's true lol

Thought this would be an interesting topic i would love to hear from you all on it

I tried that years ago as it was recommened by quite a few knowledgable breeders. It works just fine but I found that my males are just as good at predicting ovulation.

Default test

My friends used them from time to time, but I have not found them useful...breeding two or three times always seems to do it.

Well i guess the question is do they accuratly work for telling when the dog ovulates? Because every Female is different and some may ovulate early or late and the counting and flagging may miss. I guess the meaning of them would be to determine ovulation and not just rely on flagging and counting days, would be a useful tool to breeders so they would not breed to early or late i guess? Also would be cheaper then taking your dog in for daily smears at the vet. I know for seasoned breeders they know when to tell but i guess it would be cool to just know for sure, especially if they had to have a c-section they would know the exact day of ovulation and could rule out preterm c-sections.

I am not even sure what these strips are? Are they like the diabetes blood tester things?

The first breeder I got a rescue yorkie from.. could test and tell with just a swab of the female.. she did an ai in front of me.. and did it once the dog was prego.. I was amazed back then.. long ago.. so now I have no idea as she is not breeding any longer..
interesting tho....anne

this is all very intersting i have never heard of any of this so it's kinda cool to see what breeders say about it all Thanks for answering my weird thread lol.

Default breeding

It never mattered to me if they ovalulate early or late...sperm has a healthy "shelf life"...so breeding 2 to 3 times always gets it done..but that is just my bitches..with stud service I insisted on 3 breedings for a new bitch...and misses were not a problem, but I understand the need for strips if you need to know exactly...I just never need to know exactly...getting a Yorkie pregnant has never been a problem...preventing a litter takes more thought for me..LOL
