Default Getting a yorkie from a breeder - Need Advice please.

Hello everyone,
I'm almost getting my 9 wk old baby girl from this person, but just before I get her I want to ask you if you think that the yorkies this person breeds are the real deal. He says that their guarantee is for life, that they'll always keep the breed standards, 20 day good health guarantee in case its incubating some disease before the puppy leaves their house.

I just need to make the deposit so I get my girl in the next 2 weeks, but just want to check if it's not a scam, cause I've always wanted a yorkie and now it feels like its the right time to get one.
The pics are the ones they have at their site.
what do you think by just looking at them?
Thanks in advance

Default my 2 cents

I wish you much luck in your search, be very careful. I'd go with someone in your area so you can see, the parents, the conditions, etc. Find out what other dogs they breed, I've read on YT that a female can get pregnant by more than one dog.
The picture of the 3 in one mug looks sad to me, because the seller was probably trying to make them look tiny not so much caring of the babies little legs all crunched up in the mug. Then the other older yorkie by itself looks cute but to me the nails look a bit overgrown which would indicate to me that perhaps there is not the meticulous grooming care for the pup?

Good luck.

I know a lot of people buy over the internet, but personally I'd like to get one where I can see mom and dad.

IS that a rubbermaid storage container in the first pic?

I would go for a visit before purchasing any pup!

Can you see the pup and parents and visit there surroundings? Scammers are everywhere, so please be very careful, I dont care for the pic of them in a cup.

I am no breeder BUT the 3 pups in the mug bother me as well. Zander's mom mentioned the nails being overgrown. I think that I would be very careful.

Are they in the USA? What is their website? Just remember you take a HUGE chance of getting, no pup, a sick pup, or a different pup that you thought you bought when buying over the internet. If you are going to buy over the internet, make sure you get references !! The pictures also make me feel uneasy !

thanks for your replies...
we're thinking bout scheduling some kind of visit to the breeder's place to check it out, and see the pups and their parents.
do you recommend that we take our own vet with us so he checks whats going on there?

According to his site, they specialize on 'small breeds' like schnauzer, chihuahua and yorkies.
This is the link to the 'latin eBay' kind of site where you can find lots of pups for sale, but this is the breeders' ad:
http://www.mercadolibre.com.mx/jm/it...LM&id=18997758
(it's in spanish)

we've talked to him on the phone and he s kinda nice when hes talking bout the babies, but since he posted the pics and then comparing them to your pics here, now im not 100% sure bout getting the pup from him.

the last time he told us that we needed to get a teeny-tiny bed, teeny-tiny leash, plate...the tiniest wed find cause the puppy wont grow more than 8''-9'' and weight 2.5-3 lbs. Now i'm worried bout the poor puppies' health...

Oopps, I see you are also in Mexico. Best thing to do is go have a look. I googled the kennel and it looks like he sells A LOT OF PUPS! Some of the comments were in spanish so I didn't understand what they were saying.

I think that ad is offputting.
Seems like she is trying to breed tiny yorkies and trying to show that on the pictures (ex.putting a soda can beside the dog and putting the puppies in a little bowl). Seems like she is selling Teacups or Tiny Toys which usially are not healthy and can have many problems.

Also, a dog that is 8-9inch tall and only weighs 2.5-3lbs sounds very fragile to me. My dogs are around 9inch tall (very good medium size) and they weigh around 7lbs (compact strong bodies). A 9 inch dog that is 5.5lbs is usially pretty thin (common for young dogs) so a 9 inch dog that is 2.5lbs must be..emaciated.... or at least very very thin.

I would look for a breeder that is breeding the Yorkie according to the Yorkshire Terrier standard.

AKC STANDARD:
Weight
Must not exceed seven pounds.

FCI STANDARD:
WEIGHT : Weight up to 3,1 kg (7 lbs).

So 2,5 - 3 lbs is more than two times lighter than the maximum weight, which I think is too far from the standard. I think that a 5.5lbs Yorkie is a good size, small but strong.

My friend has a very fragile built small Yorkie but she broke her leg recently from a small fall, where a regular yorkie would have been just fine.

A Yorkie should be a small strong dog, a little powerful terrier dog with much intelligence.
So should we buy from people who are breeding dogs that are much more fragile/weaker/unhealthy than the regular yorkies

(no offence to the people who already have a tinytiny/fragile yorkie, I am just against breeding them intentionally that way)

And a place that sells ALOT of puppies does NOT sound good to me, that I would usially call ,,a person that produces puppies" not a breeder.
I would look better and see if you find another breeder, I would at least never buy a puppy without visiting the breeder and seeing her dogs and the inviroment that the puppies are living in.

The above statement would be a red flag to me......too small. I wonder how much the parents weigh? Especially the moms. From what I see and have read here, I'd go looking elsewhere. JMO

I agree that visiting a breeder and seeing the dogs and puppies are a good idea.

I also understand sometimes it is not possible.

I never sold any of my puppies to people who I have never met in person, as I do not ship.

But I have a question. What is wrong with a rubber maid storage container? I also use one as my whelping box. It fits under my bed when not in use, can be cleaned very easy and it is the perfect size. I think there are a lot of breeders right here on YT that use them too.

Customs are very different in Mexico than here. I would be cautious as well, but I did google his kennel name and translated the pages and it seems he has very good comments from happy customers. I definitely would go to visit before you decide and bring along someone knowledgeable in yorkies. If your vet would go with you, that would be great! I did see a couple of negative comments, but for the most part,, the customers seem to be happy with thier purchases.
Good luck

You can get your vet to go see a pup with you??? That's different. If that were an option, yes, I would take the vet.
Also, I'm a little put off by the person trying to tell you to get small bowls etc. because the pup will be 3 pounds. Sounds like he is trying to tell you what you may be wanting to hear?.
