Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | NYC Woman Arrested for Allegedly Starving Two Terriers ASPCA | March 5, 2010 When two severely emaciated Jack Russell Terriers arrived at the New York City Animal Care & Control (AC&C) shelter in Brooklyn, staff immediately suspected they had a cruelty case on their hands. Brooklyn resident Vera Osborne had relinquished the starving dogs, claiming that her niece could no longer afford to feed them—and that she could no longer bear witness to it. One of the dogs, a two-year-old pup named Patches, died within hours of being admitted, despite heroic veterinary efforts to save him. “Unfortunately, starvation is one of the most common types of cruelty we investigate,” says Stacy Wolf, Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel for the ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Department. “Animal cruelty is a serious crime, and we are doing everything we can to see that the victims receive justice.” AC&C contacted the ASPCA Humane Law Department for assistance with the case, and a necropsy performed at ASPCA Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital confirmed that Patches’ cause of death was indeed starvation. Soon after, ASPCA Special Agent Joe Vais began investigating Patches’ death, traveling to Osborne’s East Flatbush home for an interview. When questioned, Osborne again stated that the dogs were under the sole care of her niece, Rlisa Youell, and that after several failed attempts to have the dogs properly cared for, she turned them over to the shelter. On February 24, Special Agent Vais arrested Youell and charged her with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. She faces up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. The second dog has been treated and made available for adoption at AC&C in Brooklyn.

| That's horrible, they should starve her in jail. I'm glad the other pup is doing well, though... and hope a good family takes him in!

YT Addict | After reading this post and watching the news last night I think people have lost their minds...first the woman that beat an 11month old bull dog with a snow shovel now this!!!! And she had the nerve to have a "Beware of dog" sign on her door, I love to get me a snow shovel and whip her cakes! I mean tear her up! This is just crazy!! I can't even imagine allowing someone to treat my Baby bad...I dumped a boyfriend because he popped my Bryan on his butt for peeing on my floor...Let me at um!!!

| I literally get super angry when I read about things like this. It's so sad. If you can't afford or don't want to take care of an animal then I feel you should do the responsible thing and give it a better home. It's not THEIR fault. If anyone ever even thought about harming my little Lucy I'd have my trusty .45 do all of the talking. Crazy? Perhaps. I do know that I love my little girl and would do anything to protect her. Ugh, what a way to start off the morning! Kandi |

| Sickening. How coud you starve an animal knowingly? Even if not the best for them, could they not have some of your cereal or a few bites of your table scraps or whatever brand Walmart has on sale? Ugh. Disgusting.
