| No, not really. :-P I tried everything and ordered new bobbins (I was using Brother's universal size bobbins from Wally World) that were the right class size, and was still having issues. Different thread, cleaned under the needle plate and bobbin case, all that jazz. Called Brother and they told me I had gone through all steps, but it probably needed to be serviced (I think the center was like 70-80 miles away). I have had it under a month so I opted to exchange it while I had the chance because I'm sure someone could fix it (I considered taking it to my aunt because she is a guru for fixing things), but I am suspicious of it messing up this soon and was worried if it would become a constant problem. Seems a bit ridiculous to drive that far and pay someone to fix a basically new sewing machine! The reviews are so good on it that I am hoping I just got a dud or something. :-P I appreciate everyone's sound advice! I will keep all of this in mind for future reference -- you ladies are awesome! I just hope I didn't do something to mess it up!

| If you did something to "mess up" the machine then it was a piece of junk before you opened the box. Ummm are there Sewing Machine Lemon Laws?Sewing machines should be mechanically able to handle the rigors of every day sewing which includes mistakes that seamstresses make. I hope you are able to fix and/or replace the machine. I know you must be frustrated beyond all frustration! |

| I am more nervous than frustrated I think -- ha ha! I'm glad that a new one is on the way, but I foresee that I will be a bundle of nerves whenever I sew and be afraid I'm going to mess it up again and then have to drive far, far away to get it repaired. xD Ain't nobody got time for that! I had ordered it from Amazon within a month's time, so returning (well, exchanging) it through there was no problem at all (at least thus far). Also, no worries on the name misspellings! I hardly ever notice it anymore -- there are just way too many ways to spell Lindsey! My husband has a great aunt whose name is spelled 'Linzie', then there's a lot that are Lindsay, Lyndsay, Lyndsey, etc. My name of choice when gaming is 'Lindzorz', so I get Lindz or Lindzey a lot too because of that. xD So, yeah, it really doesn't bother me -- no harm done! ^^

| Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I can totally relate to being nervous. Have you read the online manual for the Brother SE400? I know when I got my very first new machine I spent literally hours reading & then re reading it! There's usually so much info in the manuals that it sometimes takes a few reads. ![]() We have a user here named Lynzy...she cracks me up & keeps me straight if I go off the deep end about a subject. Love that girl!

| I tried sewing twice. Once in Home Economics in high school, and my apron looked more like an unstaked pup tent. Again my mother tried to teach me (she is an accomplished seamstress) and again I failed miserably. Soooo...yeh, I don't do well at sewing. But - I've thoroughly enjoyed reading the thread and learning things via posts. Good luck with your machine woes, McheleM. |

| It's, probably sadistically, nice to hear that you guys have problems sometimes too! Ha ha, that probably makes me a terrible person! For whatever reason I've been laboring under the assumption that I'm the only one who has problems sewing, and that I'm basically a bull in a china shop when it all boils down. xD I know that probably sounds crazy, but I get easily discouraged (sad to say).
