Holiday dress problem, help? Hi guys, Luma's Holiday card exchange dress I ordered her from Bloomingtails came today, and it is ridiculously short. Lots of you know--she is 4.5 lbs but her measurements are 14in. long  and girth of 12in. So she is super skinny, but because she is soooooo long...we have trouble with clothes fitting. This dress is SUPER short on her. It looks like a t shirt instead of a full length, formal holiday dress. I dont want to return it. So my options are to find someone on YT who could add a trim to the bottom, or maybe a pair of frilly bloomers/underwear to go underneath. What do y'all think? Is it possible to add a trim, or would it look weird? The dress is velvet and has tulle poking out from underneath. The gap between the hem and the base of her tail is almost four inches. Anyone who could help us? :( |
Oh that sounds cute. I would add more underskirt layers instead of adding trim. Maybe do two layers, one self fabric in a contrasting color and then another layer of tulle in the same color as the original tulle. Post a pic of it so we can see! The bloomers idea is super cute too but adding the layers will be much cheaper and easier. |
I agree. I would add an underskirt. You can either just get the same color tulle or a contrasting color of tulle....personally if it is an elegant dress I would just use the same color tulle. It would look like a tiered tulle dress. |
I should add there is also a big tulle bow on the back, wiith an ornate pin in the center. I think itd be overkill to add even more tulle for length. I hope someone who sews will see this...I am feeling discouraged and I want to get it fixed ASAP so we can take the pic for our card. |
This dress sounds beutiful...we need to see a pic of it!!!!! |
A picture would help alot for ideas. |
1 Attachment(s) Sorry, I dont have my camera with me, so the quality is bad..cell phone pic. It's a million times more beautiful in person. Here's poor Luma's tooshy all exposed :p |
1 Attachment(s) And her standing up, this is after I had tugged it down as far as I could. I want it to go to the base of her tail. Also, I ordered a simple red and green bow from Bowbiz to go with it. |
I do sew. I would take the tulle that is on it off and add a longer piece of tulle or satin in the same color. The differnet textures would work well. That would be the easiest way of fixing it. |
I'm thinking to add a gentle, large ruffle, either the same or contrasting material, contrasting if the fabric can't be very closely matched, and maybe repeat the tulle under the ruffle... (PS: Capt Noonie is a professional seamtress/designer) |

If you're doing a red and green bow with it then it might look cute to add a 2-3" green satin tier, straight not ruffled, and a matching little peter pan collar. Then if you get really ambitious and there's a way to do it, add some green tulle underneath the red tulle on the bow on the back of the dress. |

Can we see a picture of the dress laid out flat on a table? How is it fitting her around her neck and front legs? If it is tight around the legs/pits, it may need the neck band extended some. One of the pictures looks like it is fitting a little tight. If it is okay in those two areas, I would just add longer red tulle; or, to match the bow, add green tulle underneath the red skirt. :) |
1 Attachment(s) Here it is. It fits her great in terms of tightness. It probably looks like it fit weird in the pics because I had tugged it as far down as it could go. She does have a very, very long and slender neck though. My giraffe baby. :D |
White faux fur is a good idea or a white satin underskirt with white or red sparkle tulle inbetween the two skirts. |
Aw what a cute dress! |

Honestly, I would send it back and find another dress. You have already spent good money on it and they have obviousley messed up her size. You should not have to put more time and money into it. |
