I think I'm going to have to upgrade to a new machine first. I just have a basic Brother machine. The model number is like LX-3125. I wrote the customer service at Brother and they said that they did not have a ruffling foot for that machine. I saw on Ebay they had some universal ones, but I wasn't sure if that would work or not? I really want a new machine for Christmas so I may have to wait to see about one then.

This one is compatible with your machine:
Ruffler (High Quality), Low Shank #55705-NS

If you get this, attach it to the machine, then handcrank your machine through a few rounds, watching that the needle doesn't hit the metal, and the foot is functioning properly... before you step on the petal. I use my ruffler at a slower speed.

The only thing I can say on the ruffler is go slow until you get the hang of it. The presser foot doesnt go down tight on the teeth, so my material wanted to pull a little, and with it being a rather large attachment, its hard to see your seam marks on your plate. And it jerks when the ruffler kicks the material under to ruffle it.
To make cording/piping,use the zipper foot (it used to be called a cording foot). Move your needle off center towards the cord. The trick is to hold the fabric tight around the cord while you sew.

Aymee,

Just an FYI. My husband bought me a universal ruffler foot, low shank,for my machine and he bought it at JoAnn for 19.99. Maybe you can check there, and if it doesn't work it's an easy return. Maybe use a coupon??:)

Great idea! I have a big book of Joann coupons now too. Hmm...wonder when I can sneak in there? ;)

That is so cool Michele:thumbup: I love how the ruffler makes it look so even, mine by hand is always a mess, great job!

Now my problem is figuring out how to measure to make sure my ruffled fabric fits into the area I need it in. Doing it by hand, I could adjust it. With the attachment I am trying to figure out how to adjust it on the machine.

Oh yeah, I'm so not good at that either. I struggle making it fit even making the ruffle by hand, :eek: hehe. Let me know the trick when you figure it out:D

ok question is there a huge difference between what you can do with a gathering foot and what you can do with a ruffler? The videos I watched kinda look like then do the same thing. on the brother site there is a gathering foot for your machine
