Whoa! That is a good price!!! I was wondering too...on the sewing machine (not embroidery machines)....what is the USB port for? I mean, I know it's for computer use, but can what can you use it for? I know the USB port on the embroidery machines is so you can purchase designs online if you want and then your machine can stitch them. I know the file has to be compatible from what I read. I need to do a lot more research before I buy. I want an embroidery machine soooo bad though. I would love to embroider on this for my home and dog clothing. I have some tulip fabric that my grandmother picked out while we were at the store that is beautiful. She said it reminded her of that poem 'tiptoe through the tulips' and I thought...how cute would that be to make a dress and embroider that saying on it. I'm sure someone has probably already done it, but I want to do it too for KS too! Then let her wear the dress to visit Momaw to see if she remembers. :) |
1 Attachment(s) Does anyone have a machine like this? I'm thinking maybe Kathy does? Well my Mom has one at her house. It belonged to my great, great grandmother originally. So that means that my great great grandmother, my great grandmother, my grandmother, and my mother have all sewn on that machine! I want to carry on the tradition and sew on it too. My Mom said the last time she tried, it still works. We would need to have it serviced I'm thinking, but I want to make a dress on this so bad!!! How cool would that be to sit down and sew at the place that has so much history in your own family. Just think of all the things that sewing machine has seen!!! I get so excited about stuff like that! |

These machines were made to last! You may need to replace the leather belt and just clean any dust off the moving parts and oil it well... it'll probably run like a champ! I can post oiling diagrams if you don't have the owner's manual.... It's like learning to drive a manual car with a clutch though. You start and stop with your right hand on the wheel... takes a little bit of coordination and practice. But fun once it comes together! The dress I made for you was sewn on mine. My machine was made in 1896. |
My Mother n law always sewed on a machine like that and now her Grand daughter has it. I was not into sewing when she was alive. I wish I would have gotten into it then, she could have taught me so much. I miss her |

When I heard tiptoe throught the tulips I think of tiny Tim...I think he used to sign that on laugh in. You would need some software for your embroidery files...I have one that converts the files to the version my machine reads... I have a Viking ..designer one. Poor thing is getting old, I have had it at least 10 years. It has a disk drive lol. I like Elna and Viking machines. I have both. Good luck on your search. |
Reading this post and you all are giving me the itch to start sewing - well, I would have to either locate my mom's old sewing machine which hails from the 60's I'm sure - or invest in a nice little starter on - that one that Aymee has I saw on sale at Wal-Mart - which would be a good place to start.... I also recently started crocheting again - though I (so far) can only crochet in a straight line... that needs some work. If only I had more time to do all of these wonderful things! |

If the machine is only 10 years old it should not take much to get it up and running. I have been lucky (knock on wood) and the major problems I have are the tension.. and the bobbin winder. I know I should take it in agian but I am afraid of what they will find:eek: The viking was a really expensive machine... the designer 1 was the very top of their line at the time .. to replace that quality is way out of my abilities now so I just keep adjusting the tension :p The Elna I have is one of the basic machine and it is such a good little guy. Viking is also a dream to sew on and they have a wide price range. |
