Why do you dress your yorkie? If you dress your yorkie in human looking clothes, do you get asked why a lot? Dresses aren't really for me, Ellington has a couple of coats, but no clothes as such. I'm curious as to why people dress their animals in dresses/hats etc (no judgement at all, honestly just curious). Do you find you have to defend your choices a lot? |
Sugar wears clothes a lot. She is always cold because I keep her in a puppy cut. Here in Florida, everywhere we go ,has too cold air conditioning. She loves her clothes and will even bring me her PJ's when she is cold. I have never gotten a rude response to her wearing clothing. Curri isn't wearing clothes much because her longer hair was getting matted :( BTW, the hats and costumes in my avatar are just for pics. We don't dress like that when we go out :sidesplt: |
Like sugarmomma, I do not dress my girls all the time, just a topknot for Piccolo. But, I think it is fun to dress them up for pictures and various other reasons. Really, it is not hurting anyone, so who cares? I have never understood why people get upset or disgusted about this. I know my dogs are dogs, not people, but I can still love them and like to have fun. :D |
i have one dog that doesnt really like clothes so i only have sweaters and coats for her when she needs to keep warm . but my 3 other dogs love to wear clothes and they get very excited when they see i'm going to dress them up, so i have alot for them :) |
Katie Scarlett has on a outfit every day and jammies every night. She is very small and the slightest breeze has her shaking, but even before we got her I had planned on trying clothes. I enjoy dressing her and I honestly think she enjoys it too. We have our ritual every morning and every night. I groom her for a few minutes, always being real gentle and petting her at the same time. I know she enjoys this because I do not have to force anything. She knows when she sees the brush in my hand what it means. She runs to our spot on the couch and hops up waiting for me. Then as I groom she licks my hands, it's like she is saying thank you. Then she will sit up an sort of stick her neck out awaiting clothing. Then she will lift any leg if need be depending on what were wearing. When she is finished, I always tell her good girl and how pretty she looks and she gets down and prisses off to her spot...which is the window sill. I honestly believe she enjoys clothing. But if ever for a minute if I thought she didn't, I wouldn't dress her. I have never gotten any rude comments. Everyone always smiles or says how cute she is. But I am prepared to defend myself if someone is rude. I will politely say that the last time I checked I didn't need or ask for their opinion. Lol. I know my dog and I wouldn't do anything to harm her or make her uncomfortable. I do realize she is a dog, but I have been known to call her my child as well. I have no skin kids and I love her like she was my own flesh and blood. Yes, I am that crazy dog lady...and I love it! ;) |

You give very good reasons :) KS always looks beautiful.. I don't dress mine as much as some except for jackets when going outside and to long hair gets matted very easily, but i see nothing wrong with them wearing clothes as long as they are ok with it |
All my little rescued ones go to their new homes with clothes . |
I have 3 girls and 2 boys and they all love their clothes, especially sweaters when it is cold. And a coat when it is raining. When I say dresses or clothes they all come running and wait in line to get theirs on, then run off to their favorite spots, prancing and prissing. They love their clothes. 3 shiver, so they wear clothes all the time unless it is very hot weather wise. My hobby is that I sew clothes too so they are models for me. I have never had a rude comment. So I have no particular reason, I like it and they like it. That's reason enough for me. |
ZoE has sweaters, hoodies and coats. If when we go out it is cold enough for me to don that type of apparel, ZoE wears hers too. |
Kacee has a human-size armoire all of her own. She dresses daily during the week and goes to work with me. No one has ever asked why, but people do frequently fawn over her.:) |
I love dressing the girls for photos, but they only wear sweaters or jackets when they are cold. I put shoes on baby Jilli Ann when we are out because I don't want to take chances at her picking up something that could cause her some harm and the asphalt is too hot for her tender pads. I think clothes are just too adorable on the little guys and I love all their modeling sessions here on YT. ;) |
Cali gets cold in the winter and in really strong air conditioning. When she is cold I either change the heat or put something on her. Frankly she does not care whether she has clothes on or not, unless she is cold. She just gores ahead and does what ever she wants. Some people, mostly women think the clothes are nice & cute. Frankly, I dont care much what people say, but my patients in my office say they always look forward to seeing what Cali is wearing. I don't think it is much different than buying a truck and paying a fortune to have it painted camouflage or people piercing their ears to wear different earrings. To each either own! |
Mine love wearing clothes....:D |
RAzzle is in full show coat, so he usually has his silk wrapping jacket on; then if raining he has a raincoat, and a winter coat, and a mudcoat. He also has booties for his feet. I usually have the booties on most times, except when we do obedience training, or we are hiking. The booties are to protect his beard from scratching. He is only in full topknot for pics, although his topknot and moustaches etc are wrapped all the time. The cutest comment I had, and it was actually to someone else about RAzzle, was we were at the park he was out swimming, one lady asked her other friend, what does he have on? She responded with total confidence, they were mini flotation devices. LMAO - it was his wraps.... |
Callie even at 16 pounds gets cold very easily and even in the summer she has to wear a shirt in the house or she shakes. Yorkies do not have under coats so they get colder then other breeds with under coats plus most are pretty small. I also figure if I am going to have to dress her to keep her from being cold it might as well be in cute stuff. I have never had anyone say anything negative only giggle or say how cute she is. Callie loves her clothes and she will put her head through the head hole and each arm through the arm hole. She also wears fleece night gowns at night because I keep my room kinda cold. |
I would love to dress my Mizuki but she is not feeling it. She will fight and then growl for hours and give us dirty looks for daring to put clothes on her. So much for her being a girly girl |

No clothes Our Mizuki hates clothes tho she will let us put a coat on her when we go out. But little dresses or bows in her hair will cause a major attitude with hours of dirty looks and growls. Even grooming is an issue she likes to nip at us. I had looked forward to dressing her up and bought lots of clothes when we first brought her home. Of course she was so small, nothing fit. Now she's two years old, 6 lbs, cute as all get out but is not feeling being a girly girl. :animal36 |
I dress Lola because she looks so dang cute, it makes me smile and others smile. Some might think I am crazy but it does still seem to bring a smile to their face, I also like dressing her for photos. But she tends to be warm so I only dress her if we are going some place, in the house she is always naked, sometimes I dress her for walks and sometimes I don't. I have most of Lola's clothes made and often buy the fabric, so for me it is really a hobby because I like picking everything out, probably even more than making her wear them. I can't believe this but I just counted and have 11 dresses being made by 4 different ladies. I said this will be it for quite a while, and then this morning I get a FB friend request from another really cool sewer. I plan to enter Lola in several contests in the next few months so the dresses will come in handy for that |
A cute thread! I love to dress remy! She does get cold and I just had her cut into the famous joey cut so now I can dress her easier. She knows she is cute and every one oooos and awes over her. I take lots of pictures and drive my daughters and friends nut. A lot of her dresses she can sleep in..the fancy ones are for show or special events. She has plenty of clothes. I sew so I make most..but there are some wonderful vendors on yt and I do indulge :) I think I love to dress her Because it is like having a living doll...dd are grown and gone so I have my baby. I have two boys (shih tuz) I don't dress them. Remy will hide from me at time when it is grooming time. They all do:( but remember I also brush teeth clean ears and give the dreaded bath!:thumbdown:eek: I have had heard negative comments... Things like omg it is a rat in a dress etc... Everyone has a right to an opinion but just keep it to yourself please:rolleyes: My dd get upset when people make comments..even if they some what agree:confused: |
Mina will sit infront of her little doll sized closet (used to be my daughters American Girl doll closet) and wait for a dress. Sometimes I put two on the floor and she will lay on the one she wants. It started out as a way to keep her warm in the airconditioning and winter months, but she really likes what I put on her. When asked why,may answer is "because I can". A father dropped his daughter off here to spend time with my daughter and when he came in the house he said, "Oh your dog has clothes on". My answer that time was "your daughter wears clothes doesnt she?". After spending time with Mina he decided that she really was like a little girl and said that he understood. |
I really beleive they get cold so easy, when my karleigh is cut shorter for summer weather she shakes :( i perfer little light weight t-shirts :) she dont mind at all :)and i feel better ;) |

LOL...now that is hilarious!!! Thanks for the hugh :D hehehe |
Zhoie gets cold easily too. The girl loves her tee-shirts a wears them around the house most of the time. I choose those for her too because of comfort. We dress for pictures or she will wear a harness/dress when we go out. She likes nighties to hang out in and wear in the winter, but now that is is getting warmer she goes to be nakked, because she sleeps all night smacked up against me:D Love it too;) |
I dress my girls because they are my babies and I love putting beautiful things on them. I don't worry about what others think of my dressing them as I buy all their stuff and they are given the best of everything from food to vet care so until someone gives me that for free I feel it's none of their business what I spend the money I work hard for. That said they dont wear dresses all the time....mostly in the winter and some weekend events :D |

I dress Neo in T-shirts and PJs because if I don't he'll scratch himself. He has allergies, and even with desensitization shots and meds, he still itches a bit. Also we keep the temp pretty cool in the house and both boys need a little cover. Connor actually enjoys having a shirt on--he does the "happy spin" when I put one on him!:D |
My little one has tshirts but that is all I have found so far in xxxs. Jackson and Jillian have shirts, dresses, pjs and sweaters. They also have bows. I enjoy it and they do not seem to mind so I do it. For Teddy, I started because he shivered first thing in the morning. I think they are adorable in their little outfits. I have seen some really beautiful ones on YT too. |
I dress Lola because she gets cold as we keep our CHA system set at 68 degrees all year long. She doesn't seem to mind the sweaters too much (I have been cutting out the tags because those she would scratch at) but we haven't had her very long either. I haven't tried a dress or booties yet, just sweaters and fleece so far. I guess we'll see how she does with bows too as her hair isn't quite long enough for a top knot yet! |
Jada and Bogie both wear a t-shirt almost every day. They both get cold easily. Jada loves her clothes and she gets excited when she sees me getting something out of her closet. She rarely wears her dressy things except for pictures and if we go out. I keep her hair braided every day and take it down each night to comb it out and re-braid. Bogie wears his hair up too, because if he doesn't he looks like an English Sheepdog:D |
