All of my girls love to wear clothes! I pull out a dress and they all fight to get it on. Maybe because they associate good things always. I take one with me everyday for a ride in the car and of course I always dress them up when they go out. Maybe start with a soft Tee Shirt and and then graduate to a dress! I started my girls early and really don't have any problems. Good luck and make it fun! |
Cailee is 5 months old and we've had her about 6 weeks. I immediately started her in a t-shirt at night (she's so tiny and we were still using AC -we're in Florida). I got her a couple of dresses and she didn't like them at first, I kept putting one on her every day at least for a couple of hours or so to get her used to them. She's OK with it now. She's going to be a bumble bee for Halloween -- this will be the REAL test of whether she will wear the costume. Cody, on the other hand, is 21 months old and he never wore any clothing until last winter. I started him in a t-shirt. I don't put clothes on him very often but he's OK with it. For me, treats were the key; but both of my pups love them. I give them Zukes - I get the little round training treats. I cut them in half for Cailee for pee pad training. Good luck with your baby!! |
We had the same issue... Although she will wear the ones she likes, She may be a little spoiled! I have a box full of clothes and she will only wear 3 outfits out of the whole thing without ripping them off. I wish I knew what it was about them but I have no idea. She is just a typical female I guess. LOL She does the same thing with bows... she only wears the ones she likes. And you all may think I am crazy but I can put in a purple bow and she will rip it out but I can put in the same bow in pink and she will leave it alone and never touch it. She may be just a little high maintance. :) |
I had the same thing with Gizmo. I think cause they where a little to big. Then I saw the thread about clothes made from socks, he did not fight this at all. Now only a month later he is using hoodie sweatshirts almost daily as it is getting colder here. |
For us it all started with lilos harness. :) we've had it on her since we found a ferret harness that would fit. Now we've upgraded to Tshirts and no hood fleece sweaters. We gave her treats in the beginning since she used to cry when she had it on. My bf said she thought we put it on her because she was in trouble lol. when we put her shirts on I always cradle her in my arms like a baby and tell her what pretty girl she is till she falls asleep and then when she wakes up she forgets that she has it on. And just walks around with it. Since it's been cold lately I think she appreciates it more and comes running when she sees her sweaters. Plus she knows a fleece sweater means she gets some cradle/ cuddle time :p |
I've got no advice with the clothes, although from your videos it looks like she might be doing a bit better with them now? Just wanted to chime in and say that Cody is sort of liking Lean Treats by Butler. They're soft so you can tear them into tons of little pieces. Although, he still only takes them about half the time. Little stinker. ;) |
Thanks guys! Update: Katie Scarlett is like a completely different dog! She is doing SO much better. She doesn't even try to bite at her clothes anymore. She lets me put them on her without any nipping and doesn't mess with them all day. It took a little patience and preserverence, but I followed all of your advice and it worked like a charm! Thank you so much for all your help! YT'ers are AWESOME!!!! |
That's awesome! It just took a little time and a patient mommy:) |

Yep, this is exactly what I did with Zhoie. The girl loves her t-shirts the best. I'm not sure how she would do with anything at the back end...that's why we've been reluctant on getting a tutu;) |
