Prices of doggy apparel- what's your price range? Since getting my new puppy I have been looking online at all the doggy clothes and I am shocked at some of the prices! I was looking at a site this morning and there were several dresses priced between $170 to over $400. I did see harness vests that were $47 -$50 on this same site. In my opinion, what I'm seeing online, paying $30- $40 for a piece of clothing is not an expensive piece. It seems to be the low end dollar amount on most sites. What do you think? What do you expect to pay when your shopping for something new for your dog? ...and if I'm not being too nosey.. what is the most you have paid for one piece of clothing for your dog? So far the most I've paid is $30 for one piece. ( which hasn't came in the mail yet... and I ordered it a bit larger than Paisley is now so she can wear it later/longer) :aimeeyork |
It can get out of control. I do not spend a lot of money on my babies clothes. I cannot afford it. There are so many people on this website that sell wonderful clothes at affordable prices. There are also places like pet supermarket, walmart, target etc that have adorable things for reasonable prices. I just don't even consider spending 400.00 on an outfit for Abby or Riley. |

I have to drive 70 miles to get to a Target. The Walmart in Mt vernon, 30 minutes away, does carry a few things for pets but not much in clothes. I'm wanting to order a dress from one of the YT members.. hoping she gets my PM today:) |
Try going onto amazon.com. You may be able to find some deals on there. |
How much I'll pay depends on the item. Obviously I'd expect to spend alot less on a tank or t-shirt ($5-$30) than I would a winter coat ($50+). I'd pay alot more for custom work/sizing because ZoE is hard to fit and if I can get stuff that fits great & looks really good on her, I'd pay extra to do so. I'd probably pay up to $100 for a nice coat or custom sweater or dress. I can't see paying more than that unless it's for a really special occasion. I know some people involve their dogs in their wedding party...maybe for something like that I'd expect to pay a few hundred for the custom work, higher quality fabric, and hand-beading, etc. |
I wouldn't pay more than $2O bucks for a piece fo my roxy. I guess it's cause we have 2 kids, one on the way and I was just laid off. My dh finds no reason to put clothing on a dog so the expense is mine. Ive been lucky and found a few cute dresses on clearance and have converted some baby clothes into doggy clothes. I really think anything made for dogs is seriously overpriced. I don't understand why a dog sweater would cost so much Just because it's made for a dog. |

I think the most I'd spend is $20 on an outfit & probably only for a special occasion. I've found her reallly cute dresses for about $15 average & I think that's fine. When I get my dream harness dress custom made I'll spend more, but that's to make me happy:D (& Princess:p) but no one else. I don't have the money either and if I did it'd still be hard to justify some of the prices I see. |
I make about 90% of Jada's clothes. The most I have ever spent was on their Easter outfits this past Easter. I had a two Furryboo.com vouchers that I paid $25.00 each for and you got to spend $50.00 for each voucher at an online boutique. I splurged and bought Jada 2 Tonimari casual outfits and adorable Easter Dress and Bogie a matching vest. I think the dress was $60.00 and the vest was $30.00. I probably would never spend that much again on one dress. Heck I could have bought enough fabric to make 40 dresses for that amount:p |
I personally think the doggy clothes are over-priced on some of those web sites too. However, nobody is made to buy them, it's not something anyone has to have to survive so it's a choice of a luxery. If those people making/selling them can get that kind of money that helps make their living, then I'm happy for them! I myself just would not spend that kind of money on dog clothes. Please don't get me wrong... I don't see anything wrong with paying a lot for dog clothes as long as the person can afford to do it and they're not neglecting their bills, their family or whatever.. it's their money, they can buy whatever they wish. I just have other things/people (kids & grandkids) I can spend money on, so I just can't justify spending that on dog clothes....per item anyhow. I don't mind splurging occasioanally, but my idea of splurging would be maybe $60 on one piece of clothing for Paisley. Which it would have to be something I really loved and really wanted before I'd pay that. I had a hard time clicking the "buy now" button to buy the $30 dress! LOL ...that was splurging for me! :D |

i found a lady on ebay who has a doggie apparal store...her sewing is perfect! She has adorable items and her dresses are around 20.00. I would never pay more for dresses for a dog than i did my own daughter, no way! I've ordered 2 items from this seller so far and love the fit.... Dresses, Shirts items in The Doggie Closet store on eBay! |
We love The Doggie Closet on ebay but also love our custom made outfits. I have made purchases that vary in price and the most I think I have spent is around $50 for a custom piece but we adore them soooo much, and these special purchases are for exquisite work and perfect fit !! I would not spend $100 or over for one item. |

So far I have purchased a good winter coat,Harley t,a couple of REALLY inexpensive ts from Walmart. It is so much more of an adventure to make something for your baby than to purchase something that is already made. |

I have a bunch of fabric.. a couple totes full! LOL I guess I'll have to try that! |

That's awesome! I'm impressed with everyone that makes their own! I am ordering a personalized harness dress from FIONA here at YT and it's less than $20... which i thought was a very good deal! I amy have to see if I can find some patterns and start sewing! Paisley is only 12 weeks old and has some growing still to do so most everything I've been buying in bigger sizes. |

My spending is all over. It depends on what it is and how much I like it. I figure Brielle is full grown she will not out grow anything I buy. Plus I'm an empty nester so you could say doggie clothes and bows are my hobby.lol:D |

Also, thanks to the person who posted the eBay link! Those prices are more my style, lol! |

So many great suggestions!! Thank you everyone. I am ALMOST inspired to try and make Cha-Chi and Bella's clothes. :D |
It depends. When it comes to things like t-shirts and other items of clothing that Jackson will rarely wear... I really don't want to spend over $10. Preferably less than that. I find most of his t-shirts at Target ($1 bin for the win!) and Walmart. Also sometimes I'll spot something on eBay or on sale at Petsmart/etc. Jackets, I don't mend shelling out a bit more. However, I've gotten lucky and gotten Jackson's three good winter jackets for under $20 each. But if I found a really nice jacket, I'd be willing to go up to $40, I think. Now, collars are another story. I have a problem with collars, he has sooo many, LOL. Honestly, I've been lucky in finding most of these for pretty cheap as well. But I have gotten him three expensive collars (over the $40 range!) But he wears these every single day and they should (the expensive ones anyways) last us years to come so I don't mind. But yeah, basically, clothing items such as t-shirts, banadanas, and things like that... usually won't go over $10. A nice leather collar I am willing to spend good money on. A good winter jacket too. |
Wanted to add, I don't spend a lot on grooming items, bows, and things like that either, so I make up for it in collars. ;) That's my story and I'm sticking to it. |
That's a really hard question....cause to me it really depends on the item I'm considering. Like I never ever in my wildest dreams thought I'd spend almost $500 on a purse...let alone a purse to carry my pup in (and Bijou hated the bag) so now Bambi gets it LOL The most I've spent on a dress so far is Bambi's new ON that's coming in a week or two. It was a little over 70....but I got a $50 gift card to the store for $25 a few months back...so it was like just paying the 20 now...LOL what dh doesn't know won't hurt right :D Normally for a dress I spend 15 to 20 but really have heartburn when sellers are charging that much and adding on shipping. I hate paying for shipping! Sounds silly but I'd rather you sell me a dress for 20 that you would have sold for 18 and then add on the 2 dollars that you're going to pay to ship it. Make sense? I don't want to know about shipping...to me it's very tacky to charge shipping when you can just roll it into the price and say free shipping. To me it's customer service I appreciate much more!!!! So when a store sends me a free shipping code I have a hard time passing it up. It's just good customer service and that's so hard to find now-a-days. Just my two cents anyway :p |

I agree about the shipping. LOL I hate paying it too but I look at it as it would cost me more than that to drive to town! I live so far out in the boonies. The closest town is a little farm town and there's not many stores here. .. no pet places. We did get a Dollar General store a couple years ago though! ...and I agree that good customer service is hard to find too! |

I learned a hard lesson about spending. When it comes to t-shirts and casual sweaters, I try to keep it under $10. Even $10 seems like a lot to me since most of his shirts were $3-$6 including small casual sweaters. Anything over that price range I will from now on check what kind of material it is, and if at all possible buy it in person so I can see it and touch it. That's because I bought Kaji a nice thick winter jacket because we were going somewhere really cold to visit. I spent $30-$50 on the jacket. It was so long ago I can't remember the exact price. It was nice, very thick and warm and cute! Well, Kaji ran through puddles and mud and all sorts of dirty things while wearing his new jacket. I washed it, and now it looks horrible. I learned to be careful what materials I buy. Kaji is now a more active, happy little dog who can, and will, get dirty. His clothes and collars have to be washable, and functional. I will admit to recently spending $50 on a harness. Like Brit, I justify this one expense as an investment for Kaji. It was the leather Buddy Belt. Kaji is full grown and this will be his harness for a very, VERY long time to come. |
