I am so amazed at all this over a comment on a puppy cull is a word used here in ky that is to place less than show in a home or a animal of any kind into another placement is does not mean the dog is bad just not to the show breeders standard many show breeders here use this word we are country people and we just use this word for less than perfect as for handlers i do know of a few that kept a dog to help support them showing other dogs even though they knew the dog would not finish i know a couple of yorkies poodle and maltese people that have had this happen to them So does having one litter out of champion lines mean i am a byb i also own a champion dog and a female hopefull just waiting to see if she breaks as i said all must get started some where i know many show breeders that have as many as 5 litters a year not all are show and must be placed so please tell me the difference show breeders also bred for the show dog but pets they place also help support there showing it is a very expensive and can cost up to 5000 for just a championship, specialty it just more expence to get into and not all are up to showing some can not handle the bickering that goes on between show people you must be tough to show a dog no matter what bred i showed gsd for 10 years so i know how tough it can get and how much can go into showing i have the highest respect for show people but i understand people wanting pets also. i guess in the future i will use my websters to make sure i am using the correct words for all so i do not offend anyone |
Congrats Dee Your Pups Are Beautiful!!! I Bet you Are A Very Proud Gramma!     |

i think I said i got Silk from a well known show breeder. Well, I did and not only that but Frankie and kandy both came to me straight from a show breeder that was downsizing due to disability. i hadn't thought of it that way before but i guess that's why I have had some show quality puppies from my litters. All three adult females from show breeders that are actively exhibiting. Now, dixie, bless her little heart, will probably just have little pet babies and that is fine. She is so sweet and is going to make a great little mama. I didn't get her from a showw background but I did buy her as a pup and raised her. |

Jessy, Learning time again....Culling is a common word used by show breeders....it is not derrogatory.....it means assessing your litter for your show quality....not that the litter isn't beautiful....but, one, just maybe one has that extra "I've got what it takes and I dare you not to put me up look".... Show Breeders that have been in this for countless number of years will tell you that they consider themselves very blessed if they get 1 possible show dog in every 6 litters.....2 It's a jackpot......and they get down on their knees and give thanks......dramatic, but oh so true. |
well everyone i am 50 so i guess i have only been showing for a few toddler years hey dee close this thread it is getting out of text all together sheeeeew you will have great babies and i dont think having only a very few dogs makes you a byb i think you must have a few more to me a byb would be someone putting out pups every month just a couple a year well you know how i feel .... its not your fauly all your girls come in close together |
thank you mardelin you got what it takes to tell it like it is at least you know the term i was only making a simple comment it takes a lot when breeding and showing it is a very simple term word |

I've got you beat....I'm 60.....started after I did my up front emersing myself in the breed.....countless years, months, days and hours of studying, genetics, breeding, pedigrees, going to shows and grooming.... I'm amazed when I see the Yorkboro's, Rothby, Pastoral women in the ring, women in the 60, 70 & 80s waltzing around that ring like they are still in their twenties.....If they can do it so can I. |
okay, since this thread haas gotten way OFF TOPIC I am done. Thank you to all those that have congratulated me on my new litter and pm's support to me. to the rest of you, well, you have been educated a little today so consider yourself blesssed. mary Ann, just so you know, because I think everyone else already knows, I don't breed in my back yard. it happens in my living room!!!!;) thought I'd have a little fun with that. |

It does have a negative connentation to it...I remember the first time I heard the Wise One use it I thought she was going to kill the puppies.... |

Lol, whatever. Wasn't attacking. Hey, I know your mad, but I'm not. Question for you? My Dad and I both graduated from Tech. You wouldn't happen to be going there would you? It's been a while, but I have fond memories of going out to the strip to pick up recreational beverages. . . I mean fond memories of my interesting professors, lol. :) I even have a picture on my bullentin board of when I was 6 years old on the Red Raider's lap, lol. |

I for one am a show breeder. Not afraid of anything. I have no problem with anyone breeding if it is done correctly and in the best interest of the breed. But I also believe that the only way a breeder has the right to offer show quality dogs is to have been in the ring and Championed dogs. I do believe that you should gain approval of your foundation from knowledgeable professional your foundation before proceeding with your breeding program. |
well in reto respect i do understand both sides have been on both sides and i guess what it comes down to you may have the greatest dogs in the world but untill you actually have one finish in the show ring you can really not call you'r self a show breeder show breeders have dogs that are showing and are finished even if you dog is show quality and never show's it is still just a pet i do feel everyone that breeds no matter what breed it is should at least attened a few shows to see what akc standard really is with that breed you can read all you want but i do believe that seeing the dog's that are showing gives another view on what you can base you'r breeding dogs to if you are wanting to stay within the standards and protect what akc is asking us to do there always be a difference of opinion between pet breeders and show always have been i guess always will be |

But not everyone wants to show. It's a sport and some people are just not interested in showing. That does not mean that they will not make a good breeder. |

Why dig back and keep bringing these up  Delores requested this to be closed too. I agree with Cutiepie, there will always be some differences I guess......nothing wrong as long as it's kept clean and not personal. No one deserves to be attacked. General comments should be tolerable IMHO though. |

But what does come to mind is why when anyone wants questions answered about the standard, breeding, whelping, etc. they turn to the exhibitor breeders for answers. But, then turn around and question their motives for being in the ring. |
that is not what i am trying to say you are correct there are some wonderfull breeders out there all i am trying to say is visit a few shows and see what the standards really are get hands on and breed the best you can proctect the breed from all it problems correct coats bites etc just learn about them i do know showing is not for everyone and i dont disrespect breeders who do not show i just have a problem with breeders who dont care what they are breeding i have seen some pretty pityfull yorkies out there all i am saying is try and stay within the standards for this breed to improve it and preserve it |
psss dee has some nice dogs we live close this is just always a touchy subject for everyone i guess |
I did not mean to lump all show breeders into the same category, any more than I would want to be lumped into the same category as puppy millers. I am almost 60 years old, and have just now started breeding, for a hobby, just have the pleasure of improving my own breeding program. I doubt if I will ever produce a show dog, and even if I thought I had a show quality, I will never know because I don't intend to show. |
do you get the yorkieshire terrier magazine it has a good artice in it on the briewers by janet jackson who is widely respected all over the world for all she has done with and for the yorkies i do believe all yorkie people should subscribe to this great knowledge in it |

Jeannie that is fine to be a hobby breeder that improves the breed. But, you did come out on the attack on show breeders asking what they are afraid of, and, when a statement like that is made in generalities against show breeders.....mmmmmmm I usually don't come out that strongly, but this time I couldn't hold back. As I've said in the past, I'm not here to judge or to alienate but to help.....I don't believe that everyone is cut out to show, but I do believe if you breed you should do so with the desire to improve and protect the beed. By the way I'm 60 too...... |
