Kathy, Just out of curiosity, if you took one of the regular looking yorkie puppies and bread it to a regular yorkie, would there be any chance of getting a Biewer puppy out of it? |
The only way to get a Biewer if one of these babies is bred to a standard Yorkie, is that the standard Yorkie must also have the Piebald gene. Then it would be a 1 in 4 chance of a Biewer pup. Sometimes you can tell if they have the piebald gene as they have the white on their chest. Each of the Yorkie pups in this litter have white on their chest, some quite a bit of white. |
Wow, I didnt know that. Some of my pups have alot of white on their chests. I wonder if they have the piebald gene? So would the same hold true for the Biewer looking puppy if you bred it to a standard yorkie? A one in 4 chance still or would it be higher since it is a Biewer? |
As you can see from the photos the mother is a yorkie. She is 1/2 Biewer, so she has the piebald gene (no white though). When a Splitter (1/2 Biewer Yorkie) is bred to a Biewer, it is a 50/50 chance for Biewer or Yorkie puppies. If the Yorkie is a standard with no piebald gene, then all of the puppies will look like standard yorkies. Simply, It takes 2 recessive genes in order for the color pattern to show up.Each parents has to give one of these genes. If a parent does not have a piebald gene to give then there is not a chance for a Biewer. Hope this is not too confusing! |
Why are some of the words in these posts green and double underlined? Does anyone else see this or just me? |

Biewer to a Yorkie with the piebald gene would result in "50/50" You can see though that my Yorkie with piebald (Hanny, the mother) to Biewer (the father) only got me 1/5 Biewer. Her last litter in Germany was 3/4 Biewers. From what I have learned about genetics the 50% chance is for each puppy born, not as a litter on whole. I was sure glad though when that last boy was born and he was a Biewer, up until then they had all been Yorkies. These Yorkie puppies ALL have one piebald gene, because that is all the father had to give (piebald gene). So these puppies when bred to a Biewer would also have the 50% chance of Biewer or Yorkie pups. Just because they are the 2nd generation of splitters does not mean the chances are greater for them to produce Biewers. |

I think what she is asking is, if the colored pup were bred to a carrier, would the chances of it having colored pups be greater than if one of the traditional colored carriers were bred to another carrier. that is hard to say, but I would say yes. because with two carriers, they would both hve to throw a colored gene to the same pup. but with a colored and a carrier, one parent is throwing only colored genes. |
The colored pup is a Biewer. If he was bred to a color carrier (splitter or a yorkie with the piebald gene), there would be a 50% chance for the pups to be Biewer and 50% chance for them to be traditional colored. Splitter or carrier bred to another splitter or carrier would only be a 25% chance of Biewer and a 75% chance of traditional yorkie (may or may not be a carrier) |

The babies are three weeks old (Tuesday, May 8)! I cannot believe the difference in the size between these pups. The two standard boys weigh in at 16 3/4 and 17 1/8 ounces. The Biewer boy weighs 11 1/4 oz. The girls are 4 5/8 (not a typo!) and 11 oz. Should I be worried about the littlest one? I am going to talk to my vet tomorrow and see what they say. She is gaining, but very slowly. She seems active enough and eats well. I have supplemented her with puppy formula and Dyne. Tuesday, I made puppy gruel for them to eat. She at least tried, not sure how much she got down her. Gave them some again today. She is not crying and unhappy. I will try to get pictures of the puppies for everyone to see how much smaller she is. I am kind of worried that her siblings will accidentally hurt her. Any advice is appreciated, I have had little ones before but they were always in the 7 oz range by this age. |
