Reagan 9 week female Well we made the jump yesterday! We lost Buddy, our 15 yo Beagle, in May. Swore we would not get another dog and yet here we are. My wife and I are now empty nesters, bought an RV, and travel a bit on weekends and a few "big" trips a year. Lots of rails to trails bike riding..... We have seen Yorkies on our travels and have developed a soft spot. Found Reagan last week and brought her home yesterday. Vet visit set for tomorrow/Sat. Need some advice if anyone can help; one website says to start socialization immediately. A thread on this forum says to wait until all shots are given...18 weeks. I'm confused. Can I start taking her on walks now...albeit not terribly far? We want to take her everywhere with us. When do we start introducing her to the car/truck slowly? Now..a little at a time? Ill chk the travel forum..... Am looking forward to being a part of this site!! |
Welcome to YT! Sorry for the loss of your Beagle. My brother's Beagle is the sweetest boy:) I would wait until she gets all her puppy vaccines. Looking forward to pics:) |
Welcome to YT! Can't wait to see pics of your new baby. :) |
Good luck with your new puppy pictures please |
Welcome to YT!!! I always recommend you wait until the baby is completely vaccinated....parvo is rampant, at least in Texas, and soooooo contageous and is a killer....I would advise you to get familiar with the vaccination protocols recommended by Dr.Jean Dodds....a lot of vets are still over vaccinating our pets, and studies are proving not only is it wasted money, they are ineffective, unnecessary, and may even be downright harmful to our pets. Be sure your vet is agreeable to doing titers as opposed to just automatically re-vaccinating every 1-3 years....two excellent books: "Yorkies For Dummies" and "Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide"....you will learn probably 90% of everything you will ever need to know about Yorkies, from these two books....the second one even has a short training CD inside the back cover! Good luck with your new baby, and welcome to this huge Yorkie loving family!!! |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! I agree with the other posters, wait until she gets her shots to take her out of the house... But this is a great time to get her used to things at your house. Good luck with your new puppy :) We would all love to see pictures! |

She is sooooo cute!!!!!! |
Hello.. Your new baby girl is tooo precious.. My little girl is nearly 18wks & she has just finished her shots. She was behind as she wasn't to well when she was younger. I still took her around with me but only in her little bag under my arm. If I needed to put her down to potty I first put her puppy training mat down & she would go on that..(not every time but eventually). I even had her in the ladies one day on her mat and it worked well. We took her for walks around our estate in her bag and our little dachie walking. It drove Hollee mad as she was getting older and all she wanted to do was walk. last week she was finally able..well what a hit that was. We had a new 'kitten' harness on..which she didnt even worry about as long as she could be walking/running next to her big sister. it was so cute watching her.. Good luck with your's, but taking a chance isn't worth it. Ax :aimeeyork |
Hello and welcome to YT. She is a cutie. The rule is to wait at least two weeks after she gets all her shots to walk and socialization with other dogs. |
awww congrats she is precious. sorry for your loss of buddy may he rest in peace. i would wait till shots are done also but in the house start getting her used to a harness and leash. also a carrier bag if you want to have her with you in all places. you may want to get a car seat and start lil rides here and there to get her used to being in the car also. my cedric used to get very car sick as a baby but now a year plus no car sickness. |
she is too cute :) |
Congrats to you both! Regan is a little sweetheart...love her little face:). Welcome to YT. |
She's adorable! I'm so looking forward to mine coming home!! |
Did you have any qualms bringing her home at 9 weeks? That's the time we will be bringing ours home and I am worried about the hypoglycemia. |
