Hi and welcome to YT. We always recommend that the puppy stays with their mom for at least 12 weeks. Some longer if they are smaller then 2 pounds. You can talk to your breeder and ask if the pup can stay longer. Good luck. Please let us know how it goes. |
oh welcome!!! I am so very happy for you. You are getting good advise and I know you will love it here. When I brought Remy home I would walk her in my yard and maybe just a bit in front on the house. I did not take her to parks and other places or around other dogs until she had her vacanations. Many people and good breeders like the pups to be 12 week when they come home. I brought Remy home at 8 weeks because that is what I had always thought was ok. My next pup will be 12 weeks but with your little one you will be fine but need to be a little bit more careful... get the vet check up asap and have some nutricale. Wishing you the best. |
What is "nutrical"? |
Aw what a cutie! Congrats. I agree that waiting until all vaccinations are done to socialize with other dogs. However, that should not stop you from getting her used to being your take along buddy. We take Gracie everywhere with us, from the first day we got her. I will say though that until she is completely vaccinated, we never put her on the ground! I am in Idaho and the vet says we only have about 6 parvo cases per year here, which is nice, but I didn't want to take any chances with her. I carry her everywhere, in my arms, in my coat, in my purse! We take her to rent movies, walk through stores, and to visit family. I do not take her to any pet stores, or anywhere that dogs would frequent. I am also very careful if I let someone pet her, but I'm not sure dogs can catch stuff from us anyway. Now, she is 16 weeks and loves to go with us. She is great in the car and isn't scared of anyone. She has lots of opportunity to see many different kinds of people during our adventures. She has a vet appointment Wednesday for more shots, not sure if that is the last round or not. Once she is safe to go on the ground, we'll start socializing with other dogs. |

Well, I checked with the breeder yesterday and Sophie is 17 oz. at week 5. She will let us know before we go to pick her up if she isn't over two lbs. We are ready to be delayed if necessary. No problem here. |

Thanks, I'm gonna do my best! I'd be happy to share picts but I can't even figure out how to post an avatar. LOL Maybe I'll work on that after church tomorrow. LOL |
How is little Reagan doing??? We are still waiting for our pup to come home and I was wondering how Reagan has been progressing. She's such a cutie pie! |
I would suggest to wait until your baby is 16 weeks. The sad truth is that any dogs go unvaccinated to dog parks and social places if your puppy smells poop (which they will want to) and it has parasites your puppy can easily get them. I would say 16 weeks assuming your puppy breast fed if not I would wait until 18-20 weeks. Immune system still too weak. Socializing is so important maybe with your friends dogs or family members pet but I would be careful! Good luck and congrats!!! |
