9 week old yorkie well i have a question i'm looking at the 5 puppies in the litter ans 4 of them are set to be about the same size as their mum or a little smaller and puppy number 5 is half the size of the others. he was weighed a week ago at 8oo g he still weighs the same. he is eating and playing normally. he is staying with me so there will be no worries about selling an unhealthy pup. is it possible he has stopped growing? i know a good way to tell is looking at their feet as they grow into them but he already has. if he has stopped growing... where do i get a harness that fits a puppy that size? |
A 9 week old puppy has not stopped growing. My baby is 10 months old and is still putting on weight. I would take it to the vet and find out why he isn't gaining any weight. |
Petco and Petsmart have small harnesses; your dog will be gaining lots of weight in the next few months, so I wouldn’t get an expensive one. It may not look like he's gaining, if you aren't weighting him carefully. For example, if the first time you weigh him, he's just eaten, he'll weight more that he will the second time if he's just had a bowel movement. So it's important to keep this in mind, their weight could vary by a few ounces each day. Also, they tend to have growth spurts, that’s why many breeders suggest on free feeding, so that when a growth spurts appears, they will have sufficient calories to fuel it. Since your dog is still so young, he hasn’t had all his shots, and you shouldn’t take him for walks until a couple of weeks after this last shot. Yorkies puppies don't have the large feet like the large breed puppies do, your dog will do most of his growing the first 6 months, and the next 6 months he'll continue to grow. Lots of people here say their pups grew to 1 1/2 years. Joey was fully grown at 11 months. |
:) lol.... he's due a big spurt soon then. right now he is the size of a guinea pig his second jab is on friday they have more accurate scales at the vet... after i posted i realised the scales i used might be broken. where i live i have to order stuff 2 weeks in advance or take 2 buses and a train to get to a pet shop ;) |

Here's a couple of patterns. How To Make A Small Dog Harness With Grosgrain Ribbon And: Harness vest |
Tea Cup Yorkie? My little baby Hollee, weighed 520gms (18.34 ounces) when I collected her at 8wks.(Breeders kitchen scale) I took her to the vet the next day for a puppy check. She was weighed on the vet's big dog scale & she registered at 550grms. (19.40 ozs) I then went onto to have hypoglycemic/worms issues with her which I have already been into on this site. She is now 12wks,eats a variety of foods very well every 3hrs and is full of energy, bounce & cheek but doesn't seem to be putting much weight on? She has definitely grown is size (length) but feels like a wisp! people who saw her three weeks before and then came this week said.. wow she has grown! Last week she weighed 650gms at the vet (22.92)..I was estataic. Yesterday I took her to the vet for a weigh on the big scale. It was confusing. In the middle where I placed her she was 650gms (22.92) as she walked off it was 600gms!! Then a lovely lady vet said lets weigh her in the guinea pig/kitten scale and it showed 720grms :D But different scale? So I weighed her with me holding her on our scale at home and then weighed just me..and it showed she was 6oogms! So in the 4wks I have had her she has put on 80gms?? and that is not consistently..but rather one spurt? This weight might also indicate she has lost weight but different scales. The vet yesterday said she was a tea cup? I didn't ask for a tea cup and the breeder said her mom is 2.2K (4.85lbs) and dad 1.7k (3.74lbs) so the pup she thought was taking after mom would get to 2.2k. Now I am wondering..how much should a tiny pup like her put on each week? Should I be happy with her eating pattern and energy and the fact she is growing in length or is there an issue with her weight gain? My own vet has mentioned earlier he may do liver enzyme tests if she doesn't gain? I so want her to be just normal and healthy:( Any advice very welcome Ax |
:) i like the harness patterns i think the second one is my favorite :D |
i tried a ferret harness on the little pup...he has to grow into it lol |

Hi how old is your little boy now and did you get a correct weight reading? My little girl is 12wks old and weighs 700gms which is about 22.74ozs. She is so tiny but growing in length and is very active and very spoilt. I also have to wait for her to have her shots as well which are delayed because she wasn't well. Good luck with you babies. Ax |
I weighed him at the vets on monday (9 weeks and 3 days) and he weighed in at 800 g again. He seems happy and is very energetic, just tiny. Looks like I"l be getting a sewing machie :p |
