| In the beginning!!! It took me ALOT of persuading to get my fella to agree to another dog! We already had two, a staff-Nikki and Owen an OESD! I told him I wanted a smaller more portable dog that I could walk whilst pushing the stroller and take to the park or into town with the kids! I told him I wanted a yorkie, I love all breeds and only said yorkie at first because he used to say he'd like one some day as his friends mum had one and he thought it was cute the way it used climb on the back of the couch! He liked the fact that they looked like little lap dogs with their long hair and ribbons but acted like real little scrappy terriers!LOL! I figured if I went for a breed he had already said he likes then I'd have more of a chance. In the end I resorted to briberyI offered to buy him a ticket for a music festival! He agreed So I started researching! The more I found out the more I realized what a special little breed of dog the yorkie was! Gaz said he was'nt really bothered what breed I choose he said it was my dog and my choice, so I looked into some other breeds of dogs too-Maltese/Chi/pug and some others but I kept coming back to the Yorkie! I started to search for puppies within a reasonable distance of us and found two KC registered litters not too far away. The first litter was the closest and the cheapest by the equivilent of approx $500 so I went to see them first. It was quite a shock when I went into the "breeders" tiny, filthy home. Mum dog had a tiny cardboard box in the corner of the living room and was squashed in there with 6 pups. There were 3/4 dirty half dressed children running around and I could hear a dog barking from the kitchen. The man told me that the pups were 5 weeks old and they would be ready to leave in a couple of days when they turned 6 weeks. I bent down to look at them, it was a pitiful sight They were covered in flea bites, were tiny and frail and had NO teeth. I asked again when they were ok to leave their mamma and he said they were'nt feeding off her anymore and she had started to pick on them so they were going on Tuesday(it was Friday). I told him that I wanted a girl and he said there were three girls and three boys and that there was one of each left. I checked them-there were 4 boys and 2 girls. I asked again to be sure and he said that 2 girls were spoken for and 2 boys were spoken forHe took one out of the box and put it on the floor, it could'nt even walk properlyI asked about the dad and he said he was in the kitchen,he briought him in but said he could'nt put him down or he would KILL the babies I told him I'd think about it and RAN from there as quick as I could I felt so bad for those babies but I just could'nt give that man any money when I did'nt agree with the way he treated those poor dogs. I do believe the dogs were family pets and he did'nt seem to have anymore dogs but I don't think they looked after them like they deserved and I never wanted to go there again! So we travelled a little farther to see the 2nd litter we had found out about. We were met at the door by a lovely lady and her husband and led into their living room. The house was huge, immaculate and in a very good area. The couple were lovely and obviously not short of money. They owned both the mother and father and no other dogs. And these dogs were their babies. The pups were just 4 weeks old, they were plump (but not too much) and they were walking around without difficulty. The man lay on the floor with the dogs and puppies licking him and playing with him. These pups had teeth coming through already and no signs of fleas, they appeared clean, healthy and happy-as were mum and dad! I could'nt get over the difference! I told them about the other litter and they were appalled and obviously upset. I was amazed to see that the dad-Benji looked after the pups too, he played with them and slept with them when their mum left to eat/poop etc. The couple told me he had never been separated from them and evn Tilly(mum) never objected to him being there. We spent a couple of hours there and didn't want to leave! They made us feel so welcome and were such genuine people. They showed us pic's of past puppies and the registration papers. They explained that the pups would see a vet and have their first jab before leaving them and would come with a puppy pack -blanket with parents scent/lots of food/toys/collar/bowls etc. I spent time with each girl (there were 3) pup, looking them over and cuddling them but I kept coming back to one in particular. She was the middle sized pup with deep gold points-the smallest had dark gold points and the biggest had light gold points. This was the one, I felt a connection! I didn't have a name picked out but her registered name was already "Mummy's Princess"! I left a deposit and placed a pink ribbon round her neck. SHE WAS MINE I phoned a couple of days later to let them know her name was Mika so they could get her used to it and asked if they could e-mail me some more pics, I'd taken one whilst I was there but I wanted MORE I spoke/emailed them often over the next few weeks and could'nt wait to collect her!!! When we picked her up she was 7 weeks old, I realize that some see this as too young but it seems to be the norm here and Mika was already 3lbs She was plump and very healthy, she had seen a vet and had her jab, was wormed upto date and fully weaned. I still keep in touch with them and send them photos and will continue to do so.
