RaeRae I don't mean this as an insult, but is this what the breeders of Blue Borns consider a success rate? A dog that is loosing its hair? If so is it because it lived that they don't care that the dog has lost the coat? I have never seen a BlueBorn I have seen a Chihuahua Yorkie Mix that looks similar it had wirey type hair that never grew long, and didn't loose coat and it was Rust color like the ones they are calling Liver. Just a different texture of coat. Very curious Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |
Well I love the pups! I hope you the best of luck! Please post some more pictures of them. |
I will have to say not all blues have hair problems and health problems etcc.Reds and chocolates blondes can have just as many problems. It depends on if they carry the alopecia gene as to the hair loss.I know a lady that has reds and chocolates and their hair is very wirey and they have health problems all the time.If they are all blue they do die most before the 2 weeks, 2 colors blue and tan they may grow up to have health problems and hair loss if they carry the alopecia gene.3 colors tan blue and white they are healthy and have no hair loss and end up as full coated adults. So to just get on her for the blues no way it should be brought up about the other colors also not just the blues. It seems alot have posted that these blues come out of champion lines, hmmmmm I also thought the nursery was not a place for heated discusions ,just to talk about our new babies? |
color delusion I'm sorry, but as cute as your puppies are you should not breed yorkies with a color delusion. Each one of those puppies have the possibility of reproducing this and diluting the yorkie gene pool. I too have a beautiful champion. Upon getting ready to breed her I found out that she had hip dysplasa. Does this mean that I can breed her as long as her puppies don't seem to have it. No it does not. Even if the puppies seem healthy it is in the genes and can show up at any time. My girl is spayed. I love these dogs and want to breed for the standard. |
I think so many people think that "liver" "chocolate" or "blue" in a yorkie sounds great because they are so widely accepted in other breeds. For instance, those are all accepted (well not chocolate, but liver and blue), in shih tzus. In fact, I have a liver shih tzu. The fact is though, that blue born pups have a low chance of survival, and even if they are seemingly healthy, can most likely go on to have bad skin conditions. All puppies that are here deserve to live healthy lives, but why deliberately breed a dog knowing there is a high chance the puppies will have a serious health condition that is most likely going to be fatal? If there was a high chance that my husband and I would have a child that would die shortly after birth, I would have never gotten pregnant with my 6 children. I think almost everyone would agree on this, whether they believe that only show dogs should breed, or that you should be able to breed any dog you want, most people would agree you shouldnt breed a dog that is going to have seriously unhealthy puppies. I hope your puppies live long healthy lives. I hope they beat the odds, but I really really think that you should not breed dogs that create such a horrible condition in a puppy. That isnt fair to the puppies or future owners. I am not trying to sound mean or rude, as I really dont like when people do that here, but I am also not the kind of person that likes to see an innocent dog suffer. |
Well said Mindierose. I too wish no harm to puppies that are already here. I just went through a long week trying to save a preemie of my own. I just see no reason to breed dogs that people know can have health problems. A friend of mine had a blue puppy awhile back and she is keeping it herself. If it begins to show any sign of the skin hardening(very painful) she will had it put down immediately. These dogs are "rare" because most of them have problems and die and if they are fortunate enough to live a full live they should not be allowed to reproduce. |

I would like to add.... Many blue born pups do survive. I see one just about every week between the 2 vets offices that I shadow. They are in perfect condition (besides 2 really old ones). She did not come here to be downed. I think we should keep our negative comments in PMs. |
I think this is a free forum and people can (and should) express their selves freely. This is an educational forum and i believe that comments posted are done with that intention. I am fairly new to the forum and to the breed so i really don't feel like i have enough background to comment on this matter BUT if breeding these colors is wrong i think it should definitely be said out loud so we all can learn and understand it. That a few survive doesn't mean its ok and i honestly find that statement very sad, cause its like a matter of luck and that is not good enough IMO. If people cant say what they think nor spread their knowledge then i wouldnt see the point of this forum. JMHO |

I just don't understand intentionally breeding for the blue born pups. I think it's sad that so many of them (that reach adult hood) end up with leathery skin that is painful for them. What kind of life is that? :( |
OMG! I just have to take a deep breath here. What a bunch of nonsense. I'm sorry, let me take another deep breath. 1. When I went to the website about off-color Yorkies, I was reminded of everything I don't like about some breeders. Very snotty, high opinion of self, their way is the only true way. there was a very notorious political person who thought all people should only be blond haired and blue eyed. We all know how that ended... 2. This breed has changed dramatically over the years as we have all seen in recent posts of pictures, etc. I'm sure it is not done changing. Lots of breeds have different sub-sets that include wire-haired and smooth coat, 13" or 15" height, many different colors. And the AKC is recognizing more new breeds (which had to come from somewhere!) all the time. It's possible there might be a new classification that would include different colored yorkies -- HEAVEN FORBID! 3. If we were only concerned about a true health issue, I would be on board with concerns about breeding. But she hasn't got any unhealthy dogs! Where do we get off thinking we know what will happen to her dogs? I may make a different choice for my dogs and my breeding program (small as it is). But she isn't populating the world with unhealthy dogs. And her 8 puppies sold on limited registration aren't going to "dilute" the Yorkie gene pool. 4.. You really gotta be BRAVE to post on YT. Its like a mine field of judgments and you never know when its going to blow up in your face. I've seen some amazingly compassionate acts here -- saving puppies, helping those that have lost their best friend. But I've seen the opposite too. By all means express your opinions -- just not your judgments. 5. Now I'm going to go play with my puppies (all properly black and tan) -- and wait for the birth of my next litter from the mom who threw a LS puppy, and pray that we are lucky enough to have healthy pups -- whether they are skittles or not. Yorkie hugs everyone, |
