Home today as I though Angel was in labour Ah, I have read so many posts about false labour. This is a first litter for me and Angel. Day 63 was yesterday. Temp went down to 98.4. Stayed there mist of the day, last night is was 99.3 and at 5 am it was 98.8. Does this taking temp work??? She was restless last night and did some minor digging, so I thought "this is it" Nope!. Not sure what else to do. I have tomorrow booked off as well, then the weekend. She should deliver by then. I am so tired. I don't think I was this stressed out having my own kids. |

thanks, I hope so. It is very decieving. It is not like you can ask them if they are feeling any pain. She is in her whelping area. Every time I walk by, she just wags her tail. She doesn't seem to be in any distress. Maybe she has a really good pain tolerance! LOL! |
Temperature holding at 99.6. I don't notice any contractions. How would you know what a contraction looks like? |
SOme females may go up then down then up and down again for the big day. Some females do not show distress at all ,I have one like that if I did not take her temp I would not know. She eats before whelping (brings it back up for me later)She has no digging or panting. She just starts to squat and is pushing out a pup. Keep a close eye on her for those reasons. It is hard when you are working outside the home. Keep your eye out for anything that is not her normal behavior. Loose stools are very common not eating chewing and licking her toys and herself.Hiding under the couch bed etc. Her stomach will get hard when she has a contraction or you may see a ripple extend over her stomache. |
I have one girl that never gives me any signs, she will just all of a sudden run back to my room scratch on the door to be let in and barely make it into the whelping box before she has one. My others act differently on their whelp day with the digging and panting, watching that temp will help. |
As she is resting, lay your hand softly on her abdomen and hold it there a few miutes. Sometimes you can feel light contractions for a day or so before they even go into labor. |
Day is almost over. I am glad i stayed home today as I am in Toronto. Really bad weather. Poor Angel, she wants to go outside every hour and the snow is like 2 feet high. I shovelled some of it out of the way as my other 2 hate the snow as they are tiny. Hopefully tonight will be the night. She is in her whelping area now. I am thinking to maybe sleep in my bed tonight and just check on her every couple of hours. My back is still stiff from the couch last night. Maybe I'll have good news to report in the morning. |
Any babies yet??? |
another sleepless night on couch. Nothing happened. Temp is down to 98.1. She ate this morning, no diarreah. Ahhhh. I know why they say now that whelping tests your patience. |
LOL...it's like that saying about watching the pot for the water to boil! What the hck is that saying, it won't come to me:rollingey it must be too early. Hang in there! |
she has some clear/white discharge this morning. Is that a good sign? |
Good sign for the discharge. If her temp is 98.1 I would say she is on her way. My girl who whelped last month her temp was always around 100.4 so when she dropped to 99.2 I knew she was was ready and sure enough 12 hours later we had pups. She ate all day for me but brought it up later,so them not eating is not a good enough sign for me,I go by the temp. Her wanting to go out alot is a good sign they are feeling pressure :) Good luck |
still holding at 98.3.....no puppies yet. |
