I want a teacup yorkie!!!!! I'm looking for one , they are so expensive if you have one and plan to give it away or if it needs a home you can count on me I will give it all the attention it needs message me if you know anyone that has a puppy and is trying to get rid of it please :) |
Hi, I see you're new to YT. Welcome! There is a yorkie for sale/wanted section on this forum where you can post in detail what you are looking to purchase in a yorkie and people can contact you. Also, there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie. All yorkies should be to standard which means they are no bigger than 7 lbs. Some end up slightly bigger or smaller, and "breeders" call the smaller yorkies "teacups". Most breeders that say they sell "teacup yorkies" are ones you want to stay away from. Welcome to YorkieTalk:) Small Yorkies sure are cute but there is really no such thing as a teacup. A Yorkie is a Yorkie. The American Kennel Club says that any Yorkie that is 7 pounds or below is within standard. If they are over 7 pounds, they are still Yorkies, just not standard. Some breeders who are only in it for the money will use the words teacup, mini, or micro for their own gain. Some Yorkies only get to be about 2 pounds which is fine, it is not good when the breeder is breeding for small size. The smaller the Yorkie is, the more potential for injury. |
Hi, welcome to YT! There are no teacup yorkies cause there's no such thing and i doubt you will be able to find someone here that is just giving away their baby but maybe if you try a rescue you can find one for a small adoption fee. The thing is if you can't afford to buy one i'm not so sure you can afford to maintain one. They are very expensive, they need to go to the vet, food, toys, grooming, spay, neuter, etc. If you have enough and time i wish you the best :) |
HI and welcome to YT. As the poster above me said , there is really no such thing as "tea-cup" yorkies....it is just a gimmick to get you to spend wayyyyyyyyyy too much money. Like she said, Yorkies usually go 5 to 7 lbs...anything smaller may have a lot of health problems so be careful.....There are people who have really small ones that have good luck with them, but Im afraid the majority have problems....but hey............mine are 5lbs, and they sure are tiny! Perfect size if you ask me JMO though lol.. good luck in your search and please be aware of scammers. |
I haven't read the other replies, but I'm sure someone has already mentioned it - there is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie. This is just a term that breeders use to sometimes jack up the prices of very small Yorkies - however the AKC does NOT recognize the term "Teacup" - really, this term is only used to describe the "size" of how small a Yorkie is. I understand if you did not know this if you are "new" to Yorkies. Also, good luck on finding one that someone is just going to GIVE to you :p Yorkies aren't cheap. If you are looking to buy a puppy, I suggest that you start SAVING UP :D However, there are many, many Yorkies (and other breeds for that mater) that are in shelters that are in desperate need of rescue - so if money is an issue with you, then rescuing one might be your best option (and a good one at that). The chances are slim that you will find the "Teacup" that you are looking for if you do decide to rescue - but size really does not matter. A Yorkie is a Yorkie is a Yorkie and I PROMISE YOU - you will fall completely in love with it no matter what it's size is :) Good luck! |

Welcome to Yt. Below are the rules for posting on the forum about wanting yorkies. i copied and pasted it from the rules. We do not allow begging for free puppies or puppies at extreme reduced costs. Yorkies are generally from $500 on up, with most being in the $1000 to $1500 range. Please do not post looking for Yorkies below $500. If your budget for a Yorkie does not allow for $500 or more, you may want to look into Yorkie rescues or adoptions of older Yorkies, as they may be better suited to your price range. Feel free to PM sellers with an offer, but the public forum is not a place to beg or whine for a Yorkie. |
Welcome to YT! Ok take it from me... Of course i LOVE my furbaby but at 3.9 pounds she scares me so much... She is so fragile. I also got her b/c I wanted a "teacup" but of course that was before I knew really anything about them. I read up a lot on yorkies before getting her but never really heard anything about teacups and their complications. Now I am wishing she was bigger, b/c she is ALWAYS rough-housing with my pug Bo, who has 20 pounds on her. She isn't afraid of anything and she will take on a 400 pound dog if she could. She jumps off of anything and everything. Luckily she hasn't had any major problems yet. Whenever I get another, I will make sure they will be at least 5-6 pounds. Hope I helped some, Chelsea |
I have a pretty small baby. She's almost 16 weeks old (Sunday) and weighs 1.8. She's the sunshine in my day :) I didn't set out to get one so tiny because of all the medical issues they can have but by fate Maggie came into my life. She was only 1.2 when I got her at 10 weeks and let me tell ya, I wasn't prepared for how small she really was !! lol I keep her in a playpen at night and in one room all other times. You have to be really careful because she doesn't know she's tiny so she's constantly trying to get on the couch and climb up your legs. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I love her to pieces and wouldn't take anything for her but little ones are alot of work and there's so much they can't do because it could hurt or even kill them so you have to be extra, extra careful.They are very much like having a "baby". Good luck in your search and keep your options open. There's alot of scammers out there too so be aware of that. :) :) :) |
i seen this coming lol! i read the first reply and i knew someone would tell her about no such thing as teacup which is good!!! but then i went to the next post and i see there is no such thing and then the next and the next and the next hahahahaha that was too funny. but their right! |
The others have covered it well, but let me say that my Sammy is about 6 pounds and she is still TINY. She fits in a carry bag to go shopping but she can still go up and down stairs and jump onto the couch. Loki is 12 pounds and he is still a very small dog. Both of them sleep on couch pillows and fit comfortably on my lap. He is a bit big to carry around in a bag, but he is still easy to travel with, fits in a car seat, etc. My point is that any Yorkie is a small dog, and any standard Yorkie (under 7 pounds) is tiny enough to carry around, if that's what you are thinking. |

welcome! good luck finding a "smaller" yorkie = ) you will have to shop around to find something in your price range, dont let that or other people discourage you when it comes to the funds. i dont think its neccessary to make 6 figures to be eligible for a yorkie. i saved for all of mine which were under 700 bucks, and if they need medical attention i can cover it when neccessary. you can also apply for care credit though most vets. i think some yorkie owners or breeders are overly dramatic about the purchase process of puppies. and telling someone if they cant afford the $1000 price tag look for another breed is rude, and snobby jmo not one person in my family understands why i spendt 650 on each one of mine, which is a lot less then others spend. but i love the breed and i wont let anyone try and talk me out of purchasing one because i dont carry 1000s in the bank. if my dogs need something they get it. its easier to come up with 200-300 for vet care than 1500.00 a dog good luck dont let anyone discourage you. p.s. i saw a yorkie in the va are at very nice cost, pm for details if interested |

shelters are a good place to look but unforunately they cost the same a lot of times as going to a breeder and are very differcult to adopt from. i have seen some pretty puppies for adoption but several times i have seen $1000 price tag attached to the baby, and thats a big turn off, i understand the need for the money, but i also look at it this way..if im going to pay XX amount of dollars for a dog im going to a breeder for a puppy so they can adapt with my home and my personality. vs the older dog who cost the same amount and may not fit in for whatever reason. i think a lot of shelters hurt theirselves with their own policys (which i know they only do to protect themselves and the doggies):p again good luck |

I understand how you feel, I wanted one of these babies for two years and i just saved money and finally got one. Dont worry, if you want one bad enough it will happen jsut with anything else, you have to be patient, I know it is hard i used to want one so bad i couldnt stand it and i used the term 'teacup" b/c i didnt know any better until i found my breeder and she explained it to me. If you see an ad onlne promising a yrkie for like 300.00 or something, dont give in it is most likely a scam;) Good luck on your search for your baby, keep us posted:) you wil gain alot of valuable info here |

Hi and a warm welcome to YT all the way from the UK! :) I collect my new baby girl on sunday....did i just say SUNDAY????? EEEEEEKKK! :eek: LOL. I found her through a show breeder here in the uk and she was selling this little girl because she will be a bit on the small side (estimates between 3-4 lbs) and she will be too small to breed/show. I think waiting for a yorkie baby to become available from a well known responsible breeder is the best way to go..they do sometimes have smaller yorkies become available. My previous yorkie was around 6lbs in weight and she was very small and would attract attention everywhere we went. goodluck in your search. |

hey bama yeah when i was looking on petfinder not too long ago there was a perfect, imo, perfect looking female yorkie and her adoption fee was $1000.00 because the way she looked, they figured they could make a great deal of profit from her to help with other shelter cost. which i can understand the need for. Honestly imo too i have a hard time finding anything i like in a shelter..i know this sounds bad but when i am looking for a yorkie i want that pretty girl or boy with the long silky coat. not an older, sickly, rough looking verision of a yorkie. (please dont hate me) i havent seen any other adoption fees (here) under $450.00 for yorkies. again i understand the need but for another 150-200.00 i cant get a puppy with papers and no limitations or restrictions. okay now i have to go grab my 2 year old son who is usuing my dove deodrant :D |
