Looking for a breeder in Ohio What a wonderful site! I have been browsing for a couple of months now, and I thought it was high time I join!:) I am new to the puppy scene. I have two small children (5 and 7yrs.) so I wanted to wait about a year before we get a Yorkie (my all time favorive breed!:) ). My children are good with animals, but I just wanted to make sure getting a puppy was a good experience all around (for us and the puppy).;) I am looking for a breeder in Ohio, as I do not want to have a puppy shipped across the country. Here are some questions that I have: Is it too soon to start looking for a breeder? How will I know when I find a good one? You guys are the best! Thanks in advance for any advice!:) |
HI!! Welcome to YT, you will love it here!! I can tell you a few good breeders in Ohio that I know of. Linda Steele, user name is lksdolls and her website is www.garlinyorkies.info Linda is a great caring woman who really loves all her yorkies. I got my Destiny from her and hope to some day get another one from her. There are a few yt members who have pups from her and they will all tell you the same. I recommend her to everyone, she always has gorgeous healthy puppies and is always honest with you. The next two breeders, I have not gotten a yorkie from them personally but they are both great breeders. Next breeder is www.countryyorkies.com I was going to get a pup from Cindy but I went to Linda's first and fell in love with Destiny. I talked to her and she is also a great woman who loves her yorkies. Next breeder is Sunset Yorkies, http://www.freewebs.com/sunsetyorkies/ Faith is also a member on YT. She too is a wonderful woman who loves and really cares about her yorkies. Her male Spike, is Destiny's half brother. And Spike of course came from Linda. All 3 are wonderful caring breeders and you can't go wrong with any of them!! Oh and I decided I was going to wait a year until I got a second yorkie, but like her name says, Destiny, just had to come and be a part of my life. But I orginally did search months ahead of time before I decided to get Destiny, (I too wanted to find a good breeder and get to know them before I got a puppy), it just was more like 6 months rather than a year. So you never know, you may get your yorkie sooner than you think!! But it certaintly isn't too soon to look for a breeder!! Good luck finding your yorkie baby to love!! |
Thanks MyTrixie! I will definitely look into these. I have done a Google search for an Ohio breeder, but I have not found too many there. Thanks again for your guidance!:) PS. I have become addicted to this site!:) I just don't know what's wrong with me! I am having so much fun reading everyone's threads I just can't stop!:D |
Thanks for the compliments Tracey. Linda is a wonderful breeder and person.I actually got to meet Linda this past Sun.and took Spike along.I had a great time seeing her and all of her yorkies. I have never actually met Cindy before either but have e-mailed with her quite a few times and she is a very nice lady who will help you out in any way she can.I would love to get a yorkie from her someday. Pup-e-love~good luck on your seach for your yorkie and if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me and I will help the best I can. |
Thanks Faith! I have put your website into my favorites list. My mother-in-law lives in Chillicothe and we go to visit often!:) I'm not sure if I have gotten a little ahead of my self or not, but...... Do I need to go on a waiting list this early? I am interested in getting a female when the time is right, and I think sometimes there is more of a demand for the girls, right? Maybe I should ask it this way....... How soon should I contact you when we know we are ready?:) You guys have all been so helpful! Thanks, Steph |
I just pm'd you. |

My baby Hope is also from Linda at www.garlinyorkies.com! I flew up and got this precious bundle of joy from Linda and it was a great decision. Linda is great and has been so helpful to me! My baby is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! d |
www.stellaryorkies.com I have not bought from her, but from everything that I have seen thus far, she looks like a very reputable breeder. She has all her pups bile acid tested and full blood panels on them before she sells them to ensure that you have a healthy pup. You know what you are getting when you buy from her. She's such a nice lady too...She's a member of YorkieTalk...Her username is YorkieRini, I think. Take a look at her website. And no, it's not too soon to start looking for the right breeder :) It's good to have a relationship with your breeder before you actually get your dog. Good luck!! |
Thanks Yorkieluv, I'm will definitely check her out.:) |
No problem :) |

Thanks everyone! I think you are right about getting a bigger Yorkie. I've actually been thinking about Silkies. I know they are bigger and sturdier, but I am so in love with Yorkies! Does anyone know anything about the temperament of Silkies? I've heard they tend to be hyper. Linda, Your Anio is sooooooo adorable! I do have my heart set on getting a female though!:D Steph |

Silkies are wonderful dogs too!! They look similar to yorkies, but their standard calls for them to be a bit bigger and their hair not as long. I love the look of silkies also :) Good luck with whatever you decide! A bigger yorkie or a silky would be good since you have children. |

I'm sure I would love him to pieces!:) I guess what makes me lean more towards getting a female are the issues with having a male dog, like marking, or being territorial. I have always had female dogs/animals growing up, that's all I know!:) |

Here is Anio today. He's a little mush ball of fur. I weighed him this morning and he's already 4.5 lb at 8 weeks old. |
3 Attachment(s) I also have a female, Christmas, who I'm guessing is going to be around 5-6 lb. |

But then I saw Scampers and fell in love with him. He is the sweetest boy ever. He loves cuddling and just loves everyone. He has never done the humping, he is definately not territorial and he has only marked a few times when in a new surrounding and no he is not neutered. I am so glad I decided to give male dogs a chance. Later on we added Poptart, a male maltese. He is also a cuddle bug, will lay on your lap all day. He has never marked, only humped a dog a few times but it was over dominance issues and he is also not territorial. Maybe not all males dogs have such great personalities, maybe I got lucky but there are others who have males that are such sweeties too. I am not saying go get a male, just wanted you to know that not all males have boy issues like humping, marking or territorial problems. After you are raised a certain way it is hard to think diferrently but I am glad I took the chance because I found out how great male dogs can be!! |
I agree Tracey, my Tootie is the MAN! He is such a sweetheart... he tolerates hugs so much better than the girls to... I have 3 girls and 2 boys... Tootie is definitely the love bug of my house! Hope and Tinker are definitely my territorial pups... |

I don't know if it's because we have so many males that live together that makes a difference with our pups as they are going up. We just added Buddy who is almost 16 weeks old. He's only attempted to hump the females a couple of times since we brought him home and I think that was only because he was so new to our home. Even that has stopped already and now he's just a cuddle bug. |
Thanks for everyone's replies! You are are all so helpful!;) Linda, Your puppies are all so cute! I would take your puppies in a minute! They are adorable!:D We are not yet ready to buy.:( My husband says in about a year or so. Right now I am just looking around to try and find a good breeder, and from what I can see, you look like a very good one!;) I will put you on my list of good breeders!:) Thanks for all your puppy pics! They are gorgeous!:) Steph |
