Wanted: Female Yorkie - NJ, PA, NY My gf and I are looking into buying a puppy. She is set on a yorkie and I am definitely not against it. However, I don't want to buy a yorkie at any random place. Help me find a reputable breeder. I've read all over that there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie, however I'm sure there are smaller pups in each litter. That's what it was like with my shih tzu and she is only 8-10 lbs. I assume a smaller yorkie may only be 4lbs full grown. Can anyone help me out. I am located in central NJ, but work in NY and am only 30-40 min from Philadelphia. Thanks in advance. |
can't help but wish you luck (bump):) |

I would recommend the breeder I purchased my yorkie from. Her name is Barbara Scott Mechanicsburg pa 717-795-1125 if you don't mind the drive. She is about 2 hours west of Phila. Mimi is a Straford Yorkshire Terrier. If you want to ask me anything about my contract with her ect. just let me know. She has a lot of knowledge and experience with yorkies. |
I could recommend a few breeders in your area, but I don't believe any of them stive for pups that will be in the size range you're looking for...they strive for dogs with sound health though, if you're interested...:) |

Anyway, you may want to check with Stacy of Sylvan Yorkies. She is an excellent breeder in New Jersey and she is also a member here. Good luck! |
looking for a yorkie i'm also looking for a "teacup" yorkie, a pup that's 6 lbs or less and my prob is not finding one cause there's so many all over NY, my prob is the $$. don't want to spend over $500 and all these pet shops are asking for atleast $1500. does anyone know of a place i can go to? i live in long island but willing to even drive to jersey if i have to. somebody please help. Jessi punjabimehak@aol.com QUOTE=BamaFan121s;984129]Actually, there is no 4 pound minimum...a common misconception...the standard is simply 'under 7 pounds.' I didn't mean to come accross as rude...reading back over what I wrote, that's how it kind of sounded.:( "Smaller" yorkies can to have more problems health wise (as in injuries). You just have to be cautious because there are lots of people out to make a quick buck off of these "tiny" dogs and what is best for them is often overlooked. Trust me, I have a 2.5 pound guy and I would give ANYTHING if he had grown a bit bigger. All signs pointed to him being in the 5 pound range.:( Anyway, you may want to check with Stacy of Sylvan Yorkies. She is an excellent breeder in New Jersey and she is also a member here. Good luck![/QUOTE] |

There is really no such thing as a Teacup Yorkie. As for the price...I think it will be VERY hard to find one for less than $500. They are a popular breed and in high demand. However if anyone knows any different...please post. Thanks for your input. |

A great place (where I bought my puppy) is in Jackson, NJ It's worth the drive and I wouldn't recommend getting a puppy from a place who will ship the puppy...at this age and being so small, I'm not sure if it will be a good idea.. Anyways, call my family breeder, Tom and Denise 732-833-9139 They are family breeders...the dad is a stay at home dad and breeds these lil furbabies They have kids so all the puppies are surrounded in a family environment! |

I hope that everyone looking for a bargain yorkie understands that a reputable breeder is not going to bargain with their pups....AND you must think about veterinary bills. One emergency that can happen with any pup can be well over $500. I have seen SO many owner surrenders of pups because people did not think about the future expenses. This is not to mention that just routine veterinary expenses, which include dental exams, and also quality food can cost quite a bit of money. |

LOL! Bama...I don't know what you were thinking either, both of us have our home state in our usermanes. I know where you live.(insert scary music here) :) |
Really! I live very close to Jackson, how big is your pup? Quote:

The Jackson, NJ thing is a no go for me. They don't actually breed them there, they get a litter of pups from PA and they sell them. I'd like to buy from a breeder that actually has mom and pop for me to see. |
Good for you! |
Ditto to the "good for you" reply! Puppy mills abound in Pennsylvania. So disgusting. |
