i dont believe in the word teacup some people use it some dont all size yorkies are still just yorkies

Yeah, but let's face it...there are TONS more sickly "teacups" than "teapots." Maybe it's the genetics, maybe it's idiots who don't know how to properly care for their pint size pup. Either way, they are more problematic. :(

Why would you want the runt AND a tiny tiny yorkie at that ?? :confused: Good luck in your search but I would care what yorkie I choose if I were you especially if you're going to pay 'teacup' prices.....if only for health reasons --
PS......Hi Ayorkielover - when people point out there is no such BREED as a teacup they're just helping someone new to the breed...Many people just don't know there is no such thing - it's not 'bashing' the little tiny yorkies...:(

I remember when I first started looking for a yorkie I looked specifically for TEACUP....and wonder of wonders - there is no such thing - it IS a selling word but it's not a put down to the small yorkies. This site is susposed to help educate people...I hope it never stops educating - but lately it seems if someone tries to help others - they get jumped on.

Good luck finding your new baby, and I'm sure the one you have is wonderful. Kodak is a small at 3lbs, both his ears are down and he has his tail. I love him just the same as if his tail was docked and ears were up. His ears were up when I got him, he just became our lil scrappy. That doesn't change anything for me. :)
The word teacup, t-cup, runt, Tiny, extra teeny, teenyweeny, tinies, etc. offends some people. One day it will be realized that those terms are not going anywhere and will be used forever. So if you are looking for a small one that will be 3-5lbs, that's a more exceptable request. They take a lot more love and care and that's why people get concerned when they are requested in the manner that you typed.

I agree with you Kodak - they will be used ...but the part that bothers some is HOW they're used....the word isn't offensive in the least :) :) but when someone is buying a yorkie - some breeders will take advantage of people who aren't knowlegable about the breed. I'm far from an expert but see so many sites using it now and the prices are outrageous :(

i honestly don't think she meant any harm in her post. she obviously loves her yorkie if she is looking to get a playmate for her. I think by her saying 'good one' she didn't mean that the one she has sucks. i think she just meant that she is looking for a yorkie that looks like the 'standard' yorkie; ears up and under 7 pounds. she used the word teacup because she didn't know any better. Most people don't know that the word teacup doesn't apply to yorkies. she stated that she wants one between 4-5 pounds which is within the standard.

i can understand what she means by 'good one'. my morgan isn't exactly the perfection of the breed. she has an underbite, a cotton coat, a white toe, a slight roach back and two white toe nails and she is 3.something pounds :eek: but that doesn't mean i don't love her none the less. my next yorkie i would like to have a silky coat because that is what the standard for the breed is and it looks prettier then the cotton mess morgan has sometimes when i don't brush her.

When you put her words together, to me it seems like she just wants a small one. Her post about wanting the runt of the litter really makes it seem like all she cares about is the size. I could be wrong, this is just what I get when I read her posts.

Elaine makes a good point here - if looking for a playmate for your other yorkie who is 7 lbs, you may be far better off to find another yorkie around that size. If you do find a puppy that is 2lbs or so, it probably wouldn't be wise to leave him/her unattended with your other dog. When I brought my second puppy home, I had to keep a close eye on them when they were together and keep them separated when I was out because of the difference in size. Even just one pound difference in weight can make a huge difference in size - imagine a 4 or 5lb difference....

Good luck in your search - just be sure to do your research on the runts before committing to one. There is NOTHING wrong with wanting one - LOTS of people on here have them (myself included). The more research you do, the better off you and the new puppy will be! :)

I don't have a problem with the "teacup" word either, I understand it is not a real term for a real yorkie, but understand people use it for size purposes and I have no problem with that. But when someone posts that they want a "teacup", they don't care if it is the runt of the litter, and they want a "good" one, to me that sounds like all they care about is it's size. I can understand wanting a smaller size, really I can, but I think the health should be the #1 priority and when all they seem to care about is size...it bothers me. It bothers me, because I have been reading about all these sick and dying babies lately on here and it is just awful. People who only care about size are more likely to get sucked into the bad breeders, because all they care about at the time is "how big". My Cooper is twice the size as I was told he would be, but I could care less. I wouldn't trade him for ANY 5 pounder out there, and I got Carley who was a little larger, because that was best for both of them. All I am saying is....."please, please...when looking for your new yorkie, do your homework and don't make size the be all and end all, health should come first!!

true, wanting the runt of the litter just to ensure she gets a tiny one isn't the best thing. A runt and a litter of small pups are entirely different. runts are usually undernurished which is why they are so small. i don't think anyone should go looking specifically for a runt so they can get a small puppy.

i hope you understand that many "teacups" come with many many health issues... and i agree with many a teacup would not be a good choice as a playmate for your normal sized yorkie.

Exactly. My old dog Misty was the runt of the litter, she was a boxer though, but she was healthy and fine...she was just smaller than the others. But to go and look for a runt just because you want a smaller dog, and to say that you now want a "good one"...well IMO thats saying you don't care about anything but size.

as the PROUD mother of a "tiny" and a "teapot", there is no such thing in my opinion as a bad yorkie! Tootie is also a WHOPPING 16 lbs, down ears, underbite, cotton hair and didnt grow his middle teeth in his mouth.....
Hope is 4 1/2 lbs, she is tiny, silky, and so precious!
I couldnt and wouldnt change a single thing about either of my babies.

I dont think she meant anything bad by saying "good" yorkie but so many people are mislead by people to beleive what is and isnt "good"....

I would also like to suggest that you NOT get too tiny of a baby to play with a 7 lb. I cannot EVER leave Tootie alone with Hope because he is so much bigger than her(OK, WAYYY BIGGER) but still, it is best to have them closer in size I beleive.

For the record.. I have not had any health problems with either my oversize or tiny babies.... Thank Goodness for that!
