not meant for you!!!!!!!! Just a general comment because I see so many arguements on the for sale board usually by people that have no interest in purchasing interjecting themselves. I know there are people that don't research this breed or breeders and need to learn but it behooves each and every one of us to do some digging for ourselves when we go to purchase a yorkie. I feel like if the seller asks a question, then it should be answered by some one that knows. Anything else , like red flags or warnings about breeders and etc., should be in a pm. There would be a whole lot less people feeling attacked even if they aren't and a whole lot less arguments. |

IMHO it is the responsibility of every dog forum administration to educate unknowing potential pet buyers particularly IF they allow puppies for sale. On a site this large with SO MANY puppy sellers coming on it is virtually impossible to police this area and many do not read all the information on the site until they have a sick 7 week old puppy.. Thank heavens there are people who care about the welfare of the pups to voice their concerns. I would have to wonder why you have objection to that:confused: |

Six and a half week old toy breed of pups available at Christmas. Now I've heard it all. Any time a breed becomes popular, as unfortunately this breed has, those that are only interested in profit commence breeding. There is no excuse for this other than sheer greed. Everyone had nothing but bad to say about Cynthia Hill's negliance in the fire that killed many dogs. I don't feel what this lady is doing is any better. Any one who has dealt with this breed knows that, even under the best of circumstances, 6 week old pups shouldn't be sold. That point isn't even arguable....PERIOD. And even AKC, who doesn't take a stand on much, takes a stand against selling X-mas pups, of any breed. Again, a no brainer. Everyone on this list want to make nice, nice and give warm little fuzzies to all who post. Nothing wrong with that but then I'd suggest you weed out the people who will sacrifice innocent pups merely for profit, justifying it with nonsensical arguments and attacks and have only people post who are trying to learn and do right by this breed. My God, think of those poor puppies. |
I just want to play devil's advocate for a second. I got my first yorkie, Hobbs, during Christmas time last year and I did it on purpose because both my husband and myself were off for 2 weeks for Christmas vacation and we figured this would be the best time to get a yorkie since we were both going to be off work and have a whole 2 weeks to devote to the new addition to our family. I know my parents did the same exact thing when they got their yorkie. Secondly, yorkies are very expensive. I would not have been able to get my first yorkie unless my parents were willing to give it to us as a gift. They offered to buy us a yorkie for a Christmas gift. How sad would my husband and I have been if no one sold yorkies around Chritmas time. :( I see no problem with selling yorkies near Christmas time, but I do have a problem with them being sold at 6 1/2 weeks old. That is just too young. |
That's wonderful. You sound like a great home for a puppy. What concerns us are the busy hectic homes, kids home from school, friends over to play, company at the house....all wanting to play with the puppy. It's not long before those situations run the pup into the ground, literally. And as you said also, 6 weeks is way too young. That's setting the poor buyers up for trauma and a huge vet bill if the pup does go down, and sets the pup up for much suffering. |

I agree with everyone who feels the red flags SHOULD be addressed - and comments should be welcome on the FOR SALE Ads. Let's look at it this way - most of the people who RAISE the red flags are USUALLY only here to sell Puppies - It's rare they actually become a member or are already a member - and frankly - most don't care what we think - BUT......for the person who is looking for a puppy - these threads can offer more info than they normally get from a straight for sale ad. I personally am ALWAYS looking for my next yorkie and sometimes what I think may be a great ad - is actually one that has nothing but red flags on further scrutiny - It's a huge help to hear peoples replies and I hope it continues.....The Sellers have a big platform to sell their puppies here - if they can't take the heat - maybe they need to go to PETFINDER where everyone else and their scammer...I mean uncle ...sells. At least HERE with our members who CARE about dogs - the good breeders are congratulated and the 'not so good' may learn something about the next time they want to sell puppies. |
Just a thought. We could start a thread (and mark it as a sticky) & list all the red flags we can think of when dealing with a breeder. Then when a breeder's post raises some red flags we can just copy & paste the address for the red flag thread. That way we are still informing buyers of the red flags without causing a ton of drama. Just a thought. I also think it's wrong that bad breeders are allowed to advertise here, so maybe we could work something out with admin. Like if you feel a post has some red flags report it to admin & if they feel the poster does not have the best interest of the pups at heart they can delete the post. |

Excellent ideas! Just as Ebay relies on viewers to let them know if live animals are offered for sale, "Red Flags" might be reported to Admin. I certainly don't blame them for wanting a friendly list but geeze, how do you get through to the people that are ripping off the public at the expense of the puppy's welfare and maybe its life?? I know, those people won't change, not when the "big bucks" are rolling in. But your idea of listing "red flags" could be invaluable to prospective buyers. I'd be happy to help out. |
I usually don't get involved but...Do you think the babies will not sell well if you wait until they are atleast 8 weeks? :confused: (even that's so young!) I just don't understand and can't imagine taking a 6 week old BABY from it's environment, why not let your children play with them a little longer, they will only have been walking for a little while and will not have even been socialized to much of anything at that time. :( The stress alone of changing homes...it\'s young immunity system...it won\'t even have it\'s first shots...This is a true shame that anyone would consider moving a baby BABY into a new family at that age. It would be very scary for the little darlings and unhealthy...Surely in your christian home, you would have much empathy and heart for the little ones.:confused: BTW, isn\'t it ILLEGAL to place a puppy before 8 weeks of age? |
