I view the point of the standard is for showing in competition. With any competition, there has to be guidelines or you would see tiny 2 pounders competing against 20 pound yorkies. That doesn't make either size less of a yorkie, only ones that do not fit into the rules of competition. On the bottom of the AKC registration paper you have a choice of tan/black, gold/black, tan/blue, gold/blue, AND other. Brown, red, blue born, solid gold, parti, black soft coated, same temperament, same size, same body structure, the only thing that is different is the coloring. It is still a yorkie. There is a big difference between a genetic flaw and a variance. It is the variance that brought us parti yorkies and where did briewers come from? I can only speak for myself. I am simply looking at and thinking about options and possibilities with a chocolate yorkies, that doesn't mean I intend to follow through. It's a process called thinking out loud. My main goal is raising healthy yorkies. Their color is secondary. If you feel chocolate and blond yorkies are genetic defects, what about one who is almost all black or those that are so light they are almost white? I have one of each of them. What about those with gray heads or those with white heads? And if you stop and think about it, the yorkshire terrier was "breed" over generations to look like what one expects today. Look at how long it took the AKC to recognize the yorkshire terrier as a breed. It had to start somewhere and who's to say that 20-50-100 years from now that chocolate and blond yorkies will be included as the norm, the new standard or perhaps even a new breed of its own and just as common as blue/tan. You see it as a genetic flaw. I see it as a hidden genetic trait, just as blue eyed blonds pop up in families with dark hair and brown eyes. I have no intensions of mixing breeds but also find that concept very interesting. As an artist, I'm just thinking outside the box.

As a breeder, you know that the only ones lining their pockets are the big time breeders and puppy millers.

I have to agree with I love Lucy, "the reality is everything is based on supply and demand." And that also explains why show breeders get more for a pup sired by a champion ....supply and demand! And I also agree with My Trixie 143, "I can very well understand a chocolate colored yorkie being more expensive. Just like parti yorkies that are twice as expensive as the normal blue and gold. I think it all has to do with the fact that a chocolate, blonde, etc, are not seen as often as the regular blue and gold yorkie. Same temperament, same size, same body structure, the only thing that is different is the coloring. Several people like to have a yorkie that is different and the coloring makes it unique. You are going to pay more for something that is more scarce than something that you can find easily and is everywhere. Just like you are going to pay more for a briewer than a regular yorkie."

My next question would be, how do you think parti yorkies came about? And what about briewers? Variations of color being breed to achieve a particular color. It had to start somewhere.

And I apologize to all for starting all this. I do hope to someday add a chocolate yorkie but if and when I do, I am going to be very picky and not just get one simply because of the color. If I was a show breeder, I may have different views on the subject, but I'm not. I'm a creative person, not a purist. It would be pretty boring around here if we all had the same views.

Dazzlin we all know that you do not "approve" of the little fellow that I have. We are all well aware that you do not see him as "standard" and no one is arguing that point. He is the color he is and that doesn't seem to be changing to satisfy the "breeder" that doesn't like it. He is not breed standard coloring. Ok. Point taken. Now can we move on?

P.S. He is one of the most precious and loving puppies I have ever had the pleasure and honor to take care of. I am glad that he came along and will be extremely sad to see him go when his new forever home is found.

Well said. Everyone has different opinions on this but one thing is for sure is that he is such a cutie..!!and 100% yorkie.
P.s don't mean to drag this debate on but what about like all parti poodles and such..they didn't originally have tri-colored poodles etc..right? now they do.
Another question-the baby we are talking about is (most likely)a blonde yorkie right? not chocolate..? I thought chocos had the light pigmented nose etc.. this guy seems to be blonde..?

Oh btw I just saw an add for a blonde yorkie from some random website and these guys didn't even look very light brown or anything!! They looked like a standard yorkie pup with some grey/light hair on top of head. They were calling them rare chocolates. :eek: and bucu $. I think the next scam could be saying that a standard yorkie is a special rare chocolate or blonde, etc..for people who don't really know what to look for..and charge like $5000. I guess these guys could be more blonde with silver or etc..when older but not like the ones that are true all the way through from birth blonde, choco, red etc..? babbing on again-darn it! LOL:p

I'm not trying to say the puppy isn't cute, or loving, or that he doesn't deserve a good home. Of course he does. He's here in this world, he deserves a great home, as does every other dog or puppy on this world. What I disagree with is charging 2x as much for him. I am totally open to "agreeing to disagree"... I do that every day as a married woman, LOL! My point, however, and I will end it with this..is that the standard is NOT for show dogs, it is for the breed as a whole. Dogs that are shown are simply a sport of presenting the best representatives of the breed standard. That breed standard applies to all who are called Yorkies, and should be adhered to by all who breed Yorkies. Eventually in hundreds of years maybe there will be allowance for different colored yorkies, I have no crystal ball to predict..however the standard has been around for half a century or more since it's last minor tweak, and the folks who govern the standard are 99% those also in the ring, I think it's going to be awfully difficult to get them to modify color.

Biewers are a different story. Those who are Biewer purists have established their own standard, and only breed Biewer to Biewer along with health clearances, etc, thus attempting to eventually establish it as a breed. May take a LOOOONG time, but I commend them for taking the innitiative. If those who love the different colored yorkies would like to do the same, establish a breed standard, a new name for the breed, separate it from a Yorkshire Terrier, and breed it true for however long and get it AKC reccognized, I would commend them also. There is always room in this world for "a little something different", however you also have to see that a yorkie just isn't a yorkie anymore when you take away a huge part of what defines it as so.

Hi Guys just wanted to add an update! We have received a deposit on both our black and tan babies. Little Bailey has been taken by a wonderful couple here in my town and Bitsy (New name Lilly LaMae :heart to) will be living in a wonderful home in Elizabeth City!

We still have Beau our little "BLONDE" boy available. I'm headed over to the nursery to add new photos of them all in the next few hours :)
