wanted: female yorkie puppy, able to travel anywhere to pick her up:) hi, i am new to Yorkie Talk and have been looking for a year and a half for a new female puppy. i live in texas, but i am able to travel anywhere in the US to pick her up. i love mix breeds and pure breads. if she is mixed i like yorkipoos and morkies. i am very capable of being home with her and i also have a roommate who loves animals so someone is always home. unfortunately, my funds are limited so my stepdad has offered to help me. i still can't afford too much for a bulk payment, but can definitely afford to keep her and get her beautiful things. i already have her named. can someone please help me find my puppy? :aimeeyork thanks, desirae :aimeeyork |
Just a couple of questions. If you can't afford to pay much for her, how are you going to travel "anywhere in the US" to get her. Plane tickets and gas are expensive. Also Yorkies can be expensive. Two of mine had to have teeth removed today (not cheap), also Yorkies, like all small dogs can have tons of health problems. Not all do, but what are your plans if yours does. It seems (and I know that it is not true in all cases) that if you "bargain" hunt for a Yorkie you end up with a cheap dog with a lot more problems in the long run. Your best bet is to save up your $ and do a lot of research on breeders and spend a little more for a health pup with less of a chance for genetic problems. |
i am able to travel because my family has flight benefits, so i am allowed to go anywhere to pick her up. if there are any health problems with her i will be able to take care of her. just because i am looking to not pay thousands of dollars to buy her does not mean that i will not be able to take care of her. i have done research on yorkies and want to find a healthy one, but if for some reason i find one and she is sickly it does not mean i would love her any less and just stop taking care of her. basically, i don't believe you have to pay tons of money to own a dog and love it. yes, there will be expenses and am fully aware of this. expenses will not hinder me from owning my own yorkie. thanks for your concern. :) :aimeeyork |
hi! welcome to YT! :wavey: Have you tried PetFinder.com ? they have some great yorkies and even some puppies. Good luck! |
i am scared to get scammed on there is it credible? :aimeeyork |
Petfinder is a bunch of rescues. I think what you're thinking of is puppyfind. There's could be a risk with that. But petfinder, as far as I know, is just rescue groups or animal shelters. :) |
thanks alot i'll take a look :D |
My sister got a rottie mix through petfinder. Good luck and welcome to YT!!! |

Pet Finder.. Scam Or Not The Pet Finder Website Itself Is Not A Scam. Unfortunately Over 90% Of People Who Advertise On There Do Scam. Before Xmas I Was Desperately Looking For A Puppy. I Cant Tell You How Many People Got Back To Me About Being From Nigeria Or Asking Me To Wire Transfer Money. They Even Have A Scam Alert On That Site. If You Do Not Know What You Are Doing, It Is Easy To Be Scammed! It Isnt Just That Site, But Many Others. Scammers Make It Hard For Others And To Trust The Sites.... Sorry To Offend You! |

Some Yorkie Buying Facts Fact # 1 - Expect to pay between 900 and up for a Yorkshire Terrier from a reputable store. This depends on size and age. Of course the younger the pup and smaller, the more of cost to expect. An average range would be between 1500 to 2500. Fact # 2 - If you can travel anywhere (and I believe that someone else said this) and you are seriously in the market for a Yorkie, then you CAN pay, the question is WILL you? Fact# 3 - If and when you find that pup that you hold in your arms and the magic sparks, unless you are not from this planet of yorkie lovers, then you WILL NOT buy the pup. However if you are, you WILL buy the pup and WILL NOT care about the price. Fact #4- If you can travel to New York, I can HIGHLY recommend a great pet store that actually breeds their pups. The store's name is J G's Quality Canines they are located in Brooklyn, NY on 2434 Stillwell Avenue. They accept appointments only. The phone number is (718) 449-7944 and I can tell you from personal experience that this store is TOPS in their field! The store is clean, all pups are immaculately CLEAN, the crates are clean and they have staff on hand for clean ups at all times. The pups are in the best of attitudes, they are playful, nice bellies, just overall great! I have been searching for a while now since the lost of my pure breed (maltese) and I can tell you this is one of the best of the best. I have been the owner of a pure breed for over 5 years. Advice: Do yourself a favor, if you are under the spell of owning a yorkie and are really serious, do your homework and again ask yourself why do you want a female yorkie, if it is not for breeding, not the best choice. I would suggest that you do your research online or purchase a book. Ownership of a yorkie is a lifetime committment, this pup WILL be a part of your family, so do your homework and select wisely and know that when selecting a yorkie, keep in mind that this is an investment in your family, not just some property that's is cute for show...! Spoken by a true pet lover! |
I honestly believe you have Petfinder's confused with Puppyfind! There are many scams on Puppyfind but Petfinders has been 100% reputable for years that I know of. If you live in Texas (Arlington), I know of a wonderful breeder near you. I would recommend her to the world. Also you could go and look at what you are buying and see how her pups are raised! The yorkies are not cheap....BUT....come with a TWO year guarantee, which you rarely find. I have two of her pups myself. You can pm me if you would like the information on her. :) |

Actually... very few people on YT would recommend ever buying a pup from a store. Most would say "pet store" and "reputable" shouldn't even be used in the same sentence. Granted, I know that a few of our members have purchased form QC and are very happy with their babies and the owner of QC, but as a whole most, if not all, people would advise against 99% of pet stores if they know the facts about where most pet stores get their dogs. $1,500 is quite a bit more than many of our members have paid for their yorkies, so it's not entirely accurate to say that is the low end of the average price. It's probably the average in NYC, but definitely not in other areas of the country. And Desirae explained that she has flight benefits, so she won't need to pay (or at least pay full price) for a plane ticket. No matter how cute a yorkie is that I hold in my arms, if the price is out of my range- I'm walking. Believe me, I've held many a cute yorkie in my hands and had to leave empty handed because I wasn't willing to spend more than the amount I had budgeted. I have a female yorkie- not used for breeding- and couldn't be happier with my decision, so I'm not sure why you're advising against her getting a female. Also, in her post she said that she has been looking for 1 1/2 years for puppy, so this is by no means an impulse purchase. She very well may have books on the yorkie breed and have done research on the internet. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't get the impression that she in anyway thought that her new yorkie would be just a cute piece of property for show, so I'm not sure why you mentioned that. Desirae, we have many wonderful breeders on YT, and they would be a great place to start. TxShopper is in TX and is a breeder. She would be a great place to start for a puppy- either one of hers or perhaps she can recommend a breeder. Good luck in your search, and don't worry- you'll find your baby soon enough! |
I know there have been a couple of yorkies for sale on here lately...I would check out the for sale ads on here!! I know there was a little 8 week old female in NY earlier....and petfinder.com is a great site to look at as well!!! |
thanks for your support and advice, i really appreciate it. it gives me more hope after being dissapointed so many times. thanks again, desirae |
definitely keep an eye on petfinder.com, local shelters listings, or even the newspapers. i noticed that since christmas there's been more listings for puppies at shelters...people who got puppies for christmas are now finding that they're in way over their heads, or they'll realize that in the next month. the honeymoon of having a cute little puppy will be overriden by the responsibility and will start trying to get rid of their puppies for one reason or another and you'll be able to pick up some good deals. good luck! |
We got our male from a breeder not too far from us for $800, and her females, I think, are $900. Her web site is sandhillspuppypaws.com (I have no clue how to set up a link). However, she may have pups that aren't posted so if your interested give her a call and ask. I know that when I went there that there were quite a few not on the site. I toured her entire place and everything looked on the up and up. Also give me a couple of months and I may have one to sell. Two of ours were really into it this morning and my other female is just coming in. |

Comment First off, I don't know what you are talking about but you show me a breeder that will sell a yorkie pup for less than $1,000. For my own personal benefit and to pass on to others, seriously. Secondly, you and others should not knock pet stores, I in no way would misguide anyone with regard to my experience. My experience is what it is, pleasant. I ranted and raved about QC because I saw it for myself and just like you said most people would speak against a pet store and I do understand that but there are exceptions, to not buy from a pet store is not a rule and if it is, whose is it, please let me know? It's just like saying all apples are bad, not true My advice was to spark objectives, the decision to purchase a pup is a life altering decision. If I sound rude, not my intent, excuse my frankness. And yes I am from NY so with the bad rep we get, I guess that's why you felt the need to write your post, no offense taken. Appreciate your comments. |

I'll pose the question in the General discussion board as to who was able to purchase a yorkie for less than $1,000. I think you'll be suprised at how many people have purchased yorkies for less than $1,000. Believe me, I didn't get Olivia for less than $1,000 because I was looking primarily in NY and NJ primarily for a breeder, but there are plenty out there. Pet stores, for the most part, get their puppies from brokers (who get them from puppy mills) or get them directly from puppy mills. It's a fact. There are a few smaller pet stores that don't do this, but a very large percentage (dare I say, the majority) of them do. If you use the search feature here on YT, search "puppy mills" and "pet store" and you will see quite a bit of information and some great links for more information. |

I would also like to know that point. I was born in NY, my parents were on the NYPD. When my Mothers Police Car was hit, her back and neck were broken so we moved here in 1970 where it's warm and she could retire. I will always love NY. And being born there I am a New Yorker. So I have a bad Rep.? I don't think so! |
I  New York!!! |

Yorkies under $1000 Desirae just keep looking out there. Post some inquiries and keep looking through the resources that you have around you including YT, newspapers, puppyfind, etc. While my husband and I could afford a puppy that was over $1000 we had to set a budget. We decided that despite my love for yorkies that we wouldn't spend more than $500 on a dog that was intended to be only a family pet (not for show or breeding). I was blessed enough to find a one time breeder in my area that was selling her pups for $500. We'll give it all of the love and all of the care he needs, but without putting down more than we were willing to from the beginning. At first I honestly thought I was going to have to look into other breeds, but like I said be patient and keep looking. You'll find a little one when the time is right. And when you do there is alot of great advice on YT and we all want to see pictures! I would recommend doing a search on YT and online for what to look for in a breeder and what questions to ask. This could really help in your search for a healthy well bred puppy regardless of the cost. Best of Luck! Leah :) |
