WANTED : Yorkie in Wayne, NJ (07470) Hi all, I am interested in adding a Yorkie puppy to our loving family, which currently consists of my wife, 6 yr old daughter, 2 year old son and myself (38 yrs old). We also have 2 parakeets/budgies that are currently trying to hatch 2 eggs :) Male yorkie is preferable, AKC registered is a must and would like to avoid shipping. I read on here that it should be at least 10 weeks old and have all required shots at week 12, so this will be a consideration for us. I had dogs throughout my childhood/teens and have actually matured a bit since then, so I will make an excellent father :) :p . Our intention is that this dog will not be just a pet to us, but a true member of our family. *Also, we will make a donation to YorkieTalk if we are able to find our baby here.* Thanks in advance for your consideration! |
Good luck in your search! Have you considered checking out the rescues and shelters in your area? |
I'm in Teaneck, NJ. I got my Yoshi from a rescue called Operation Little Dog. He's a so sweet & very healthy. In fact, we're visiting an adoption today & they do have a male Yorkie available. Here's their link...Adopt A Lab - Helping Labrador Retrievers Find Their Forever Homes I sent you a PM as well. Good luck with your search! |
Thanks Couvers; I have checked but they rarely get any yorkies, mostly pitbulls and cats. Thanks Teresiana, I will check that out for sure!! |
Hello I am in NJ, too.... I live in Hopatcong by the BIG lake... welcome to Yorkie talk, Best of luck in your search. hugs, |
welcome to yt and good luck in your search!! They do have yorkie rescues...have you considered looking into those? Also,....don't be surprised if a breeder won't sell to you because you have small children...Most breeders won't |
Good luck in your search. Welcome to YorkieTalk :) Many breeders don't sell to homes with small children though. Rescues are the same unless the yorkie is oversized. |
maybe you should consider a silky terrier is a bigger sturdier dog. 7 - 11 pounds of pure love too... just a suggestion to people with young children.. hugs, |
Also check out the YTCA web site for a list of breeders in your area. Welcome to YT! |
Thank you all for the warm welcome, information and good wishes! Hmm, I would generally understand not wanting to sell to a family with small kids (we are definitely not looking for a "micro" or "teacup" variety, especially since they do not exist), but every child/family is different. My 6.5 year old has checked out several books on Yorkies from her school library (in an effort to convince me that Yorkies are better than my childhood dogs: Lab, Dachsund and Doberman), admittedly knows as much about the breed as I do and would help us take care of the puppy immensely. Lots of space in our home too, so Yorkie would not be cramped or anything. I DO find it highly commendable that a breeder would forego profit for the sake of the puppy's quality of life...just wanted to expand on our info in case any of you are "on the fence" :) Looking into a rescue recommended by a member here, could not make it in time to today's adoption but will try again next time. Thanks again. |
Good luck in your search. How far are you willing to travel? I breed very rarely and show but I know several other breeders in this area general area. I'm in upstate NY.... |
Hmmm. I've been talking to an existing owner who is looking to sell me their 13 week old yorkie male. No paperwork other than vaccine card for puppy and medical history info on the sire/dam. Also has entry papers into the US for the parents (originally from South America). I just don't know...What do you guys/gals think? |
Please be careful of scammers...have you actually seen the pup? Why is she/he looking to rehome? I ask because a good breeder does not let their pup go to their forever home before 12 weeks, and this pup is just 13wks? JMO, but i smell something fishy here...and no papers??!! Could be just me and my paranoia, I wouldn't..... |
I agree. There is a lot of scammers out there. I got an email from some guy that said the wanted to rehome his puppy he was from the states and moved th south Africa. Wants to send the dog back to the states. Idk how this guy got my email. But I deleted it. There is a lot of scammers mentioning south africa. Google it. There is lots of warnings. Please be careful. All they do is take your money. I would only look for rep breeders YTCA website is a good place or a rescue |
hi , i sent you a private message with breeder info... |

Thanks everybody. Actually the seller claims they are in a nearby town and wants to meet in a park to do the exchange (yikes). They seem legit, but only time will tell. Sent me pics also (tried to attach, but even tho .png listed as valid attachment, says invalid extension):(, no matches on Tineye. They are very firm on the price, no papers and all. What do I need papers for, btw? FYI, I do not plan on showing or breeding this dog. Tried one breeder on YTCA and still no answer. Will try calling another tomorrow, and will continue to look at the rescues. Thanks again to all.:) |
Simon, I sent you a PM. |
Welcome to yorkietalk. If you are willing to travel to CT I just saw this on craigslist 2 yorkies in need of new home. It's a male & female that they want to adopt out together. Best of luck in your search |
Simon, update? I hope you didn't meet this guy in the park?? |
I really hope he didn't , and dont buy from craigslist either....jmo |
Hi everybody 4 Attachment(s) I'm fine, thanks for asking :) That seller is now unresponsive. Yes, i have seen just how ugly the CL world is, with comments of "how do you expect papers at this price" etc etc. I do need to know the following if you would all be so kind as to chime in. The attached pics show a dog I am trying to adopt (again, no paperwork because "breeder was charging too much extra for papers"...why do I need papers for again?). From looking at the impressive "Age Progression" thread pics here, I wasnt sure if this was a pure yorkie or if maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me due to grooming/lack thereof. Also noticed that AKC states that a white mark on chest exceeding 1 inch disqualifies him as a Yorkie. I think I see a white spot way bigger than 1 inch there. We do like the look of the dog but were wondering if your trained eyes see something we dont? Please advise, we greatly appreciate a response so we dont miss out to someone else by delaying. Thanks again to all! |

Very cute doggie. May I ask if male or female and how much are they selling for. The dog looks yorkie to me and big..lol. My Austin is 13 pounds and muscled but he's 2 years old. If you ask me, just because I have a connection with a breeder, I would go with the one I private messages you about. I know you won't be disssappinted as the doggie comes from an excellent breeder. You can't get any better than that. Good luck on you decision. |
Thanks to you both. Yorkie pictured is a 14 week old male and seller is asking for rehoming fee of $700. Yes, we are kind of in love with him at this point and will be meeting him this weekend. SoSo, thanks for recommending the breeder; I will pursue if this deal falls through and I can't find any rescue Yorkies. Back to CL: there is a guy on there (I believe his ad got flagged and removed at this point) that is selling 9 week old pups for $500 each but ZERO shots or papers. My question is, is it even healthy to have pups that old with no shots? What $ would someone that buys that pup be looking at for the required shots? Quote:

i personally would not buy a pup that has not been vet checked and has medical records to prove it.. |
Thanks MY OSCAR. I have one addt'l question for everybody: Just noticed that the ears are not taped and that the tail isn't either. Is there a standard or recommendation either way? Any ballpark amount I would be paying to do this? (if not recommended, I would be fine leaving him as is) |

sometimes it takes awhile for the ears to stand. some yorkies never have erect ears. my oscar is almost 1 year old and his never went up. it is really a personal preference about the ears. i dont know anything about taping them so i cant advise you on that... |
As a breeder I can tell you that sometimes the runt or smaller baby of a litter is born too small to dock,so the tails are kept, and sold as pets. I have a couple of my little silkies with tails, due to low weight at birth. so you might want to ask why was his tail not docked and his ears not taped at a young age. Also at 14 months this puppy should even have his first rabies shot. best of luck with your search and hoping this is a good match for you.. at this point it would be major amputation surgery to dock the tail, not worth the pain and risk.. keep the tail.. hugs, |
Thanks guys. Ok, was just wondering if he "needed" to look a certain way. Thanks for the advice. If I do get him, I will be keeping him as is. |
