Looking for *ODD* Yorkie hi, i'm looking for a yorkie that is mainly hairless. Some say this is due to medical problems such as hypothyroidism and such. I already have one and would like to get another . The one i have has hair on his head and his legs but hair doesnt grow on his back. I have pics if your confused of what im talking about. If anyone has heard of this, or can help me out on where to get one at let me know . |
Hi I have NO clue what you are talking about, but I would like to see a picture if you don't mind. |
please post pics :D |
1 Attachment(s) I know what a Chinese Crested looks like, and you are somewhat describing that. I never saw or heard about a hairless yorkie. Here is a picture I found on the web of a hairless crested. |
Its called colour dilution alopecia. Its a disorder and I don't know anyone who breeds for it. Here's some info from Merek Vet manual. http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/in...m/bc/70203.htm |
WOW - A hairless Yorkie - never imagined in my wildest dreams! Can't wait to see a picture of this one. :D |
Hairless yorkie on Animal Planet I just saw this hairless yorkie on animal planet. I'm on the east coast, so people in different time zones might be able to catch it. The show is Amaizing Animal and it's the "Ultimate Oddities Special." It's a puppy yorkie without hair. It shows it with the rest of the litter, that has hair. Just thought I'd let you all know! :p |
bld2751 we were watching the same thing!!!!!!!!! its still cute lol now im watching pet keeping with mark marrone:D |
Ditto ... saw that on Animal Planet! It was unusual! |
Kojak Yes, the little hairless yorkie has been on that show several times as a rerun. The problem with him is he is more suseptible (Sp) to cold and has to wear sunscreen when he goes out cause he does not have the normal protection of his hair like most yorkies, he is adorable, but it is a birth defect, not a breeding trait. Due to his bald nature they have named him Kojak after the Telly Savalas TV character. |
It was definitely different! I love watching Animal Planet. It's so good!!! |
Why, so you can breed with this terrible defect? |
Hairless.. My yorkie is hairless. I am taking him to the vet to try and see if there is something to help him..He is itchy and has sores |
Hi..My yorkie is hairless on his back and body..You can kind of see him..I think if you go to my profile you can see pictures of him |
Hi! I have never seen a hairless yorkie, but would like to see pictures of yours! |
Are these the yorkies thay call blue yorkies? |
Blue yorkies are just yorkshire Terriers with steel blue hair, (grey/blue) Please post pictures! |

I've never seen a hairless Yorkie! Please post pics! |
I believe it's a "blue born Yorkie puppy" which the coat drops out as he/she grows into an adult?! right? |

Not all blue born puppies lose their hair some do some have sparce hair and some have a full coat, hairless I would say is not a blue born pup.imo |
If his skin is blue where there is hair loss then I would say he is a blue puppy not all blues carry the gene for hair loss etc, no different that choc and reds imo, all babies should be black and any other color is not right! |

before. Beats me why anyone would look for a dog with a defect. I forget how long it would take to lose the breed completely (but not long) if people continue to do careless breeding. Anyone can have a defect show up but breeding to have puppies with no idea of health problems in the line and not even trying to breed to the standard so we will have this breed with us for future generations to come is so sad. |
Some people just want the odd and unusual these blue ,red, choc pups are no different than the others just different hair coloring I do think some of them are beautiful, look how many people want a chocolate or a red like Julz. The blues can have a few health problems with them I guess but I have also heard so do the choc and reds, I guess it is just a matter of what you want, but to breed for them is just not right!!imo There is a lady in LIme Springs that breeds for the red pupppies and has at least 1 in every litter she had 2 reds in her last litter, they are darker than Julz red puppies. |
For the life of me I couldn't understand why so many yorkie breeders are also breeding chinese crested. Duh the light finally went on. What better way to get "hairless" yorkies than to cross breed them with the already hairless chinese crested. Personally I'm fed up to the teeth with the never ending quest for "designer" breeds. I love the breed, always have, always will and wish I was in the position to protect them all. I believe part of the problem is that the AKC is considering giving legitimacy to these designer dogs which only further encourages experimentation. Yorkies are distinquished in part by their coat so I don't see how making them hairless improves anything. I think it is high time that those with purebred registered yorkies get busy with a letter writing campaign to the AKC, the CKC etc demanding that the breed standard remain the same and that "variations" not be considered. It is the only way to protect the integrity of the breed. |
