I would love to go rescue and adopt one of these yorkies but I have no means to do so. | Please don't feel attacked in any way, but are you sure now is the best of times to adopt/purchase a yorkie? All dog's take a lot of time to potty train, and to learn how to behave when the humans are away. I don't know how many hours a day you are away, but I would recommend sitting down and figuring out how many hours a day you won't be at home and imagine leaving the pup confined in an expen or gated in a room for that many hours.
Is it really fair for a puppy to be left alone that long? Will you be able to come home during your lunch break to check on them, take them for a quick walk/exercise in the yard? Dogs need their humans and being left at home for 8+ hours a day is very lonesome for them.
If you are set on getting a puppy I would find a reputable breeder and see if you can bring the puppy home during your summer break. That way you would have 2+ months to train, socialize, and get your pup into a routine.
Again, I'm not trying to discourage you from getting a yorkie, I work full time and I live alone, but I make it home during lunch everyday to play and let him out to potty and it works for the both of us. Ideally I'd be able to bring him to work, but I'm not allowed :thumbdown
The YTCA is a great place to start if you want to purchase, otherwise a yorkie rescue is a wonderful thing. Good luck on your puppy search! |
