Looking in Northern California Hi I am new to Yorkie Talk and am looking for a yorkie puppy in Northern California. Does anyone recommend a breeder in the Bay Area. I would like my baby soon, but am willing to wait. I just want a healthy pup. Thanks Jen |
hut-hum Bay isn't Nor Cal...I'm in Nor Cal...bay is in the middle...anywho you looking for a standard yorkie, rescue yorkie? Try YTCA and Yorkie rescue that is right out of Sac. I'm looking in Nor Cal right now but most likely will have to go down to Sac to get one.. |
Wanted to say hello neighbors. I'm in the northern part of central california not too far from you. Good luck in your search! |

Here are a few recourse links for you to look into...the third one is a play group and you might find some people there who have breeder recommendations...please be sure to thoroughly review the Sticky's here and buy the breeder not the dog:I noted Meadowland Yorkies via Google is all over for their sick dogs and the list of breeders they get them from and work with is like a list of people to avoid like the plague..please also note that... http://www.facebook.com/event.php?ei...12801492075714 <<<LOL sorry it was funny to me >>>The Sacramento Yorkie Play Group (Sacramento, CA) - Meetup http://yorkie.rescueme.org/California <<verify them Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie) Breeders and Kennels in California (CA) http://www.edenvalleyyorkies.com/ordering.html <<<considers Sac Nor Cal too :o) http://www.ytca.org/cnorthcalif.htm <<considers Sac to OR Nor Cal Breeders Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Biewer Breed Club of America http://www.facebook.com/people/Colli...00000447334170 http://www.colorfulyorkie.com <<run by YT member http://www.partiyorkshireterrierclub.com <<run by YT member http://www.bortolinangels.com <<large kennel in Sac. |

Concretegurl, thanks for the heads up about Meadowland Yorkies. I am very nervous about buying a Yorkie puppy. I bought a really sick Yorkie from a "breeder" in Dixon. Yorkieangel they were awful, they ended up going to jail for animal abuse and fraud (Yay) Haha on the Facebook link LMAO, Wilkiepedia (sp) says it is Northern CA, I guess Ive been mistaken where I live my whole life! I looked at those links, I think I am starting to fall in love with Parti Yorkies. Eden Valley has some beautiful pups, but may be out of my price range. I will definitly do my research this time. It just never crossed my mind that people would sell sick puppies. Thanks again for your tips |
Does pastyme yorkies have a website? I googled it but can't seem to find it. |
For the last quote go to the YTCA web site and look them up there Mardelin shows and would only recommend reputable breeders whom also show and have experience breeding Yorkies...she and the breeder she recommended breed standard Yorkies though and I saw on your other post you expressed interest in a Parti. I don't recommend or have anything to say about the breeder I sent you links about it's just the same stuff I'm looking at myself right now too so DO YOUR HOMEWORK on everyone you talk to...buy the breeder and not the pup. I'd be sure to not only get the answers you want but to check around here about the person, and ask for proof of everything they say like when someone say champion bloodline...you want to see the AKC pedigree if they don't show you-don't believe them, if they claim OFA certified heart and knees in the parent-you want to see the certification...etc. Be careful get everything in the contract, in writing and make sure you understand it and are willing to accept the terms of it...then post on here about your experience...when in doubt walk away! That's my new rule, also read the stikys about getting a pup and about breeders and just because you find a great breeder to get a pup from, don't take a pup just because it's there, be sure it has the personality that will fit your family lifestyle...any good breeder will ask you lots of questions ensuring you are the right fit for one of their pups-I've found the breeders who ask you a lot of questions and really scrutinizes who they let adopt their pups isn't selling you a dog...they are adopting to you and are more likely to be there when you need them for continual support and will stand behind their pup. Let us all know how it goes! :) Quote:

Further on the health tests. It is better if you cross verify by going to the health registry sites themselves. You will need the full registered name of the Yorkie parents. You can start here www.chic.org this is a site that shows in one place some of the prebreeding/screening health tests done on Yorkies, CERF and OFA. Or as this is a relatively new requirement and many breeders have yet to submit their paperwork to chic; go to www.ofa.org for hips, elbows, knees (again the registered name of parents is required) and for eyes; www.cerf.org. Oh yes and some breeders are preferring PennHip registry. Liver Shunt testing has no main health database that I am aware of. Here you will need to see the Lab report on the test results for the breeding pair. Hyperurocosuria - Bladder stones. Go to University of davis. Cardio myleopathy - no health database Kidney/Liver disease - no health database On the AKC website www.akc.org you can check out the breeding pair's record of wins Also please check out the horizontal pedigree as well as the vertical pedigree. The vertical pedigree roughly speaking is that which is father/mother, grandfather/mother, greatgrand parents. The horizontal pedigree looks at siblings of the litter the parents come from. There are some studies which suggest that polygenetic conditions such as hip/elbow dysplasia is more accurately predicted by looking at within a certain litter, how many of that litter has/have the condition. Good luck with your search. |
Is something wrong with my browser? Because chic is a hacked search listing site for me ofa is a horticultural site and cerf is a coastal protection group... Here's the links I use to verify: Orthopedic Foundation for Animals Canine Health Information Center: CHIC Information CERF - CERF Information (Brochure) For the other testings the breeder's official vet records of having tested their dogs and the vet's "clean bill" or test results showing the absence of these defects is sufficient...also if you are really into it you can ask to see and verify their DNA record banked with the AKC which can be a critical thing to have a copy of and know is done prior to adoption...for Parti's the absence of inbreeding is critical! Again you'll need the AKC registration number, the breeders full contact information and their registration umber but I was told furthermore their permission thus they have to show you their proof and the individual registration number and then you can verify it by the test ID # anyone do this and actually know? Maybe a Biewer puppy from S. California? My hubby doesn't mind doing the driving for the right buyer. |

Really? The Bay Area isn't considered NorCal? it's embarrassing that all the PacSuns and Zumiez in the Bay Area sell NorCal shirts then if it's not NorCal..lol (I'm from the Bay Area and everyone there considers themselves NorCal..so does wikipedia apparently LOL). Anyway good luck finding your pup! I wish I did more research and bought from a more reputable breeder before buying my little one..he has grade iv lp and he's only 1 ): but I still love my pup all the same (: |
You mean the ones (T-shirts etc) that they purchased from a local company in Arcata, CA shortly after their expansion to the Bayshore Mall in Eureka, CA? ;) Wikipedia... LOL everyone from So Cal and the Bay thinks the Bay is Nor Cal...its those of us in Nor Cal that know better...:D...ye that an geographically...I'm being silly...but it genuinely is a rather sore spot for many Nor Cal residents...we do exist...from Santa Rosa to the OR boarder. OP-Many Parti breeders are now using chic. cerf and OFA to legitimized their lines...I'm not sure about Biewers or the Biewer club of America...or the Parti clubs stances as they are several many of them and the "regulations" change between clubs... Haha I totally understand! That's so funny! Wiki (we all know how reliable wiki is lol) says we're part of NorCal, but I came across a government website that drew the lines and the Bay Area wasn't included! You learn something new every day I guess! haha (: |

I grew up in San Diego. We always considered the Bay Area to be NorCal. Central was Bakersfield/San Joaquin Valley and LA down is SoCal. Live and learn. |

Nor cal includes sacaramento I was born and raised in sac and we have always been considered to be in northern Ca. I just found my perfect baby girl from a local breeder. She is perfect and comes from champion lines. I get to take her home next week when she is 12 weeks old. She has a brother and sister who may still be available. Jenny if you are still looking pm me and I will give the contact info. |
Darn iPad...really I can spell Sacramento! This is a great site and I have learned lots of good info here! |
Ok Bakersfield chimming in,,,, we look like we are central but we consider ourselves to be Southern... Who knows.... Its just works! :) |
