Then I could return with them to their home, and help them set up for their pup, look at "risks" to the pup, help them on their first potty training in their own home, and so much more. I could help them shop for what they need to groom, wash, train, etc the pup. I could also help supervise their first bath with their pup and first nail trim and ear clean. Despite my breeder knowing me for some years, and training(me) with our BRT;s, she took me shopping for Razz, I went over to her place to learn how to bathe and trim Razz up. Er um, cause he was so small, I had to have a couple of lessons there:) But still even today I ask her to "tip" his ears, I'm still not easy with that. Oh and before Razz came home, she went through my home (which she had been to before) to check to see if I had prepared enough for my pup. I had mostly done fine. I had to get a couple of more dog gates as my house is a whole lot of stairs, and that concerned her. She asked about sleeping arrangements and I showed his crate in our bedroom, the other crate in our garden room, and I explained when and how I would use them. Now I know not everyone can do that. We are pretty close to each other geographically. But for me a new owner it was wonderful to have her so close and so involved. |

Would you choose a mate just by looking at the clubs they belong to? |

Just because someone belongs to the YTCA or has AKC registered dogs, does not mean they are good breeders or good people. Nor does being a show breeder mean that you stand behind your dogs or breed healthy dogs. To the OP. Do your homework on the breeder, beyond looking at their credentials. |

Stick with the Best, research, and go for the standard. |

There are the % of bad professionals are there are bad NON professionals, in any field. Why do you think that people who choose not to show are less reputable? I thouroughy agree, do your homework on the breeder. Do not assume that they are good or bad because of the club they belong to. There are YTCA members that sell tinies for exhorbatant prices, they have large kennels, that breed more than one breed of dog, that breed dogs out of strandard, that breed dogs who carry genes with helath issues etc. In another thread, one even tried to sell a tiny with an open font for $5000. |

To the OPer~maybe you would consider a rescue. All three of mine are and I love them to death and could be sweeter. ;) |

BUT it doesn't mean all is NOT right in the world. The breeder members of the YTCA are scrutinized prior membership, and agree to a code of conduct. Does that mean 100% will abide by it? Of course not. But probably the majority does. It so damn easy to backhand those organizations that put out front their agenda(s). So easy to critique the shortcomings. So easy to find fault. It is so easy, because they have a very public face. They show their ie post their ethics, their scruples, and they are watched, assessed, disparaged (on here it seems like at every turn). I personally stand behind all those posters who say; "start at YTCA for a list of breeders" it is a good starting point. Then assess, rate, evaluate those breeders. Are there other good breeders out there. Probably. But who knows who they are? |
